While going through all my edits to make goofy baseball cards for my creativity thread, I began to realize that I have derived inspiration from some pretty peculiar places. For example:
Ziegenfuss I worked for Meals On Wheels for several years and one of the old ladies on my route was named Ms. Ziegenfuss. She was your quintessential crazy old cat lady, and her house was pretty terrifying to go into. I always remembered her name, and when I tossed it into Google Translate I was pleased to learn it means "Goat Foot". So I gave the name to a sinister German character who does the Lightning Speed pin combo, the kick to the head being the Ol' Goat Foot.
Don Castro & Cole Canyon Named after the Don Castro and Cull Canyon Recreation Areas in California, swimming holes I used to go to as a kid.
Cameron Parker I was thinking about a cool old saloon/arcade/roadside attraction my parents used to take me to on our way to Lake Tahoe called Sam's Town, which was in Cameron Park.
Dudley Kravitz My dad could never get Lenny Kravitz's name right, and this is what he usually called him.
Sid Garrett This one's quite obvious: his attire and name both resemble a cigarette, and he's known to choke people out. Yeah, I'm a pretty heavy smoker.
I could go on and on because it seems like most of my characters have a strange OOC story behind their names. Surely I am not the only one who does this sort of thing. Anyone else got strange and/or silly stories behind their characters?

'krunch dunkins' was a creation stemming from a stream of ecw anarchy rulz where i had the audience decide the appearance and name, and this was essentially the result. good times, should probably do so again

Ali Ahmed Mehrmohammdi, the Nigerian Prince was directly ripped from an actual Nigerian Hoax e-mail I once got. Storyline wise, he started off as an actual Nigerian scammer, trying to rip fans off as a heel, but became a legit wrestler through the years, and now is one of the cornerstones of Pan African Wrestling.
Professor Mark Gizenga is based off a spam post on the old boards, from some guy who promised to improve your dissertations. As such, Gizenga's finisher is the Dissertation of Doom.
Tomas the Tiny Giant came into being during a stream when someone wondered what it would look like if you made a G-sized edit with minimum sized parts(before you could zero out the parts). His weird speaking style is somewhat based off Sid Vicious promos, where he'd speak in a hushed tone, AND THEN SCREAM HIS HEAD OFF.
Hobo Harry is an old e-fed character that I created when some pictures surfaced during Hurricane Katrina, and the subsequent looting. There was a picture of a looter who I felt made a great template for a hardcore style wrestler, and thus Hobo Harry was born.
Long Haul Lenny Broadway originated as a "worst possible wrestler names ever" that wrestler Chuck Taylor posted on social media. I saw that name and thought "I could make this guy work" and Broadway became a stoned out hippie truck driver who teams with the Everyman as the Blue Collar Brawlers.
Killer King Jones was another e-fed character from years ago, but he originated in a dream. I recall in the dream that he used a toss up into a headbutt to the chest that launched the opponent, calling it the Eritrean Head Cannon. Other than that, he's basically an Abdullah type. I have him in my Santana Family fed on the last leg of his career, not so much a feared bloody brawler as a bit of a comedic heel now.

Machine Gun Mayhem is based off of an old action figure (I think maybe a Spawn villain but I cant remember) that my cousin would play with when we were kids. He would make machine gun sounds as he battled his other toys, which at the time I found endlessly annoying. The image stuck when I was thinking of a top heel.
Brick is based off a dude I went to college with. One day he was having a conversation in a hallway when another kid was running around the corner and ran straight into him and bounced off, like a brick wall. We called him "Brick" the rest of the year (he was also a huge motherfucker from Montana, so I kept that part in the character as well).

Some friends and I had the great idea to try and play D&D once a few years ago. My idea for a character was going to be a guy who basically wore a robot costume made of carboard and tinfoil and the like; however he was going to be pretty delusional in the sense that he thought everyone else truly believed he was a god damn robot and he was gonna sell that shit as being real like he was the NWA World Champion in 1974. Not one person could possibly be that stupid to actually believe it but try telling him that. The game never panned out because we realized the one friend we had who'd played D&D before was pretty clueless. Fast forward to 2017 and I adapted the character into an original edit but instead of a robot, he's a firefly.
