Jikkyou Power Pro-Wrestling '96 Max Voltage - Official Guide Year: 1996 Published by: Konami & NTT Pages: 128 Known as Konami's forgotten Wrestling game of the 1990's, Jikkyou Max Voltage is a Super Famicom grappler that features pre-rendered graphics similar in style to RARE's Donkey Kong Country released two years prior. Along with a roster composed of many familiar KONAMI characters (quite a few of which, cosplaying as real-life Wrestlers, too), Max Voltage also incorporated play-by-play announcer samples that reacted to in-ring action as each match unfolded. The Official Guidebook is a rare artifact from Konami's lone Max Voltage release. As to my knowledge, this guidebook was issued in two separate versions (one with a blue spine, and the second variant with a green one). At the time of writing this, I have yet to get on my hands on the harder-to-find green variant (more-so, discovering what the differences between both versions actually are).
Nevertheless, check back regularly as I scan all 128 pages.

Pages 12 - 13: gameplay mechanics around the ring continued. Pages 14 - 15: gameplay techniques continued. Pages 16 - 17: Battle Manual part 1. Pages 18 - 19: battle manual section continued. Pages 20 - 21. additional grapple techniques. Pages 22 - 23: Grapple timing and related techniques. Pages 24 - 25: damage explanation and the title page for the Wrestler data section. Classic Puroresu fans may recognize the belt renders on page 25. The four belts are based on the NJPW IWGP Heavyweight Championship (90's design) and AJPW's original Triple Crown Championships (late 80's, pre-unification design). Pages 26 - 27: part 1 of the roster overview. These characters are based on Wrestlers from NJPW. Pages 28 - 29: the NJPW-inspired roster continued. Pages 30 - 31: the WWWK (World Wrestling Kingdom) promotion is based on the WWF. Here, certain combatants are inspired by both Konami characters and real-life Wrestlers. Example, The Great Goemon is inspired by Goemon and The Great Muta. Sparkster is a mixture of Sparkster and Hulk Hogan, etc. Pages 32 - 33: WWK roster continued. Pages 34 - 35: the B.O.M. roster is a homage to Japanese Deathmatch promotions FMW, I.W.A. and W*ING. Pages 36 - 37: the REAL'S roster is based on former shoot fighting promotion Fighting Network RINGS. Pages 38 - 39: 'The Storm of Generation Change' offers an insight into the story behind Jikkyou Max Voltage. The main protagonist and default Wrestler Nagata Kagetora (whom I believe is based on Mitsuharu Misawa) is on his way to becoming the SWGP champion, here is the text: "The storm of generational change has arrived in Super Japan! This time, Nakata, who defeated Solomon Utsumi in the previous series and is showing unstoppable momentum, has been scheduled to challenge for the SWGP for the first time in September. In recent years, the wave of generational change has been rapidly sweeping over Nippon Pro Wrestling, the largest professional wrestling organization in Japan. Titan Jonouchi, who was once feared as a demon, is now spending his time teaching young wrestlers rather than fighting. For that reason, if Nakata were to take the long-awaited SWGP.
This phenomenon would undoubtedly accelerate. By the way, the champion Alex Fukunaga is also in perfect health. He has seriously stated that "Our era is still going on," and although he is worried about his stamina in the actual event, he is likely to excite the fans with his skilled match management. Our magazine predicts that Fukunaga will win with a 70% chance..."Page 39 is the title page for the Player Development Manual section.
