I asked on Arena before I went to Japan a few years ago so thought it was worth a shot here too. I'm from sunny England (That would be more ironic if we hadn't had a 6 week heatwave) and have never visited the US. We're booked up for Alcatraz but that's about it really. I love wrestling, comics and video games. I'm looking for suggestions of places/shops/restaurants that will cover my list or any wrestling shows in the area (We're 19th - 25th August). I'm pretty happy to bumble about for a week but recommendations would be very helpful. Thank you!

Ironic. I am also taking a trip to the bay area between the the 24th-28th and would love suggestions on things to do. One thing I would suggest is to visit Russian River Brewerie in Santa Rosa. It's a 2 hour trip ,I believe, from SF. Ask for Pliny the Elder

It’s a great trip over on the ferry (try and get port side of your boat on the way out and you’ll have a prime view as you come round to the island prison entrance) and the audio tour is really immersive. Got a little Alcatraz prisoner cup on my desk at work now. If you’re able to, I’d recommend getting up early one day and walking down to Boudin’s Bakery at Pier 39 for breakfast. Then go to see the Sea Lions and touristy stuff at Fisherman’s Wharf. It’s a really nice (long-ish) walk along the promenade from there to the Ferry Building, which has a busy indoor market, and the ice cream at Humphry Slocombe is ace (beware of huge queues though!). You’ll probably find all that is within easy reach of your ferry to Alcatraz, so can do that all in one. It’s a really walkable city (in comparison to when I was in LA and Atlanta) and I felt totally safe doing so during the day. Union Square is ok (lots of construction when I was there) and the walk through Chinatown and then down the hill to Fisherman’s Wharf has some cool sights. I didn’t get to the Golden Gate Bridge sadly. The Cow Palace was visible from my drive from the airport, so you can see a little wrestling history as well. Hopefully someone with more local knowledge can chime in, enjoy your trip!

Thank you, that sounds awesome! My wife's company is based in San Francisco so she's there every few months but thankfully this trip has fallen in the school holidays so I can tag along. Funnily enough her previous company was based in Atlanta and she said walking was a nightmare too.
We're always keen for a long walk so I'll probably give Pier 39 and the indoor market a go. I've got a feeling our hotel is near Union Square but I'm relying on my wife and Google Maps to get about. The Cow Palace would be awesome, I'll make sure to get a photo.
