Saikyou Nobuhiko Takada - Game manual
Year: 1995
Developer: Hudson Soft
Pages: 35
Released in 1995, Saikyou Nobuhiko Takada is a 2D fighter/Wrestling game hybrid based on the now-defunct UWFI promotion in Japan.
The game featured UWFI posterboy Nobuhiko Takada as the only licensed Wrestler; with the rest of the roster based on real-life Wrestlers
all under different names.
Front and back of the game manual. 'Humor Network' was the official monthly magazine of Hudson Soft in Japan.
I believe the magazine ran from 1993 to 1999.
The first two pages are for a 'present campaign', where players could win a copy of Nobuhiko Takada's ALL FOR WIN biography.
The second page is a foreword from the UWFI International promotion and Takada himself.
The next two pages comprise a biography on Nobuhiko Takada (up until the game's release in '95), along with a great match photo. If you
look closely, you can see the 'Suplex Monster' Gary Albright in the background.
Saikyou's manual starts counting pages with page 6 - 7 being the standard button layout.
Pages 8 - 9: character information for Nobuhiko Takada.
The last section ('Special Combination'), tabs out all of the moves used for each player's super combo, which is triggered
by pressing X + A simultaneously.
Since Hudson decided to cut costs by only licensing the UWFI promotion and Takada himself, the rest of Saikyou's roster is based on
knockoff characters inspired by the biggest Pro-Wrestling and Shoot Fighting stars of the early 90's.
Pages 10 - 11: Big-Nova Geiger (Big Van Vader) & Gary Briant (Gary Albright).
It's worth noting that many of the Wrestlers featured in Saikyou didn't actually participate in the UWFI promotion. For example.
Akira Maeda (pictured above to the left) was the biggest star of the RINGS Fighting Network promotion at the time; while
Masakatsu Funaki (pictured right) was the central player of rival promotion PANCRASE.
Pages 12 - 13
Akitoshi Hishida (Akira Maeda) & Masashi Saeki (Masakatsu Funaki).
Pages 14 - 15: Akiteru Takayagi (Masaaki Satake) & Murder Wolf (Volk Han).
Pages 16 - 17: Morris Pison (Mike Tyson) & Hiroaki Fujikawa (Yoshiaki Fujiwara).
Pages 18 - 19: Tiger Neo (Tiger Mask) and the start of the Command Combinations section; a glossary for move inputs.
Pages 20 - 21: Command Combinations continued.
Pages 22 - 23: Fighting Technique section. These pages offer tips for combat including move cancellations, playing it safe with strikes
and submission holds.
Pages 24 - 25: Fighting Technique section continued. These pages focus on techniques such as guard, lower guard, break and down
mechanics.
Would anyone be able to identify the mystery opponent on page 25?
Page 26 - 27: Game Start section. This section lists the game modes with a summary for each including: the title screen, mode select
and player select.
The opponent on page 26 is Big Van Vader.
Page 28 - 29: Game Start section continued with a summary on the 'Reserve' section: an added mode that serves as a mini Player Edit
of sorts; allowing the player to customize one of the pre-existing characters.
Page 29 includes a summary for selecting partners in tag matches, setting up a fighter and further instructions on how a created Wrestler's
stats are recorded in Story mode.
Pages 30 - 31: Game Start section continued. Rules for different match types are explained here, along with ring selection
and the options mode also covered.
Pages 32 - 33: in Saikyou, players can adjust the stats of a fighter after certain matches. Page 32 covers each of the different stats, and
what they represent during gameplay.
Page 33 is the display section; an overview of what both players see on-screen during gameplay.
Pages 34 - 35: the 'Other mode' section which covers Vs Single (versus mode), Story, and Vs Double (Tag matches).
Page 35: corporate information and handling tips for the game itself.
This concludes another Japanese game manual. Special thanks to the original scanners over at gamemanual.midnightmeattrain.com/
