Fire Pro-Wrestling '96 Iron Slam - Winning Strategy Special
Year: 1996 Pages: 95 Publisher: Keibunsha For my twentieth guidebook submission, we'll be looking at one of the most interesting entries in the Fire Pro-Wrestling pantheon. After years of marketing itself as a 2D Wrestling sim, Fire Pro decided to enter the world of modern, 3D Wrestling games with Iron Slam '96. As time has shown us, the end result was less than favourable to say the least. With a severely reduced roster, showcase of jerky animations, salty graphics, and matches relegated to strictly one-on-one affairs, Iron Slam '96 served as a sombre reminder that good graphics aren't always everything when it comes to creating a great Wrestling game.
Stay tuned as more pages are scanned.

Page 1: Table of contents. Includes a directory for each of the Wrestlers, gameplay summary and other sections of the guidebook. Pages 2 to 3: game mode summaries. Includes Exhibition Mode, Circuit Mode, and the Champion Belt feature. Pages 4 to 5: Configuration (options menu) summary and the title page of the next section - 'Character File '96'.
Pages 6 to 7: Red Kaiser (Jushin Thunder Liger). Kaiser's bio reads: "Although he is small in stature, he is a master of the ancient martial art `Bone Method'' and is skilled in striking techniques. Of course, he is also good at aerial attacks, and his special technique is Shooting Star Press. His ability is that of a super heavyweight."

Page 8: Liger's signature attacks with brief summaries. Page 9: Liger's finisher, plus a three technique combo suggestion. Pages to 11 are Liger's suggested matchup against Super Delfin. For the simming fans out there looking to recreate notable matches, the suggested match pages usually include a date where both combatants faced off in real-life. Pages 12 - 13: The Dolphin (Super Delfin). Dolphin's bio reads: "A light-hearted masked man who is a former surfer.. Although he is the smallest Wrestler among all the players, his aerial attacks are nothing short of brilliant. Even though he has advanced techniques, he doesn't mind using cowardly tactics such as kicking people in the private parts." Pages 14 to 15: Delfin's signature attacks, finisher and custom combo. Pages 16 to 17: Delfin's recommended match against Jushin Thunder Liger. Pages 18 - 19: This particular guidebook uses the literal Japanese words for the following Wrestler's name: Kokuryu (which translates to 'Black Dragon') is based on The Great Muta. Muta's profile reads: "He has an eerie painting on his face. He is a heel and the top wrestler in the current organization, and is known as the Oriental Ninja Black Dragon. His specialities are poison mist and sneak attacks, but he also has a lot of fancy flying techniques".

Pages 20 - 21: Great Muta's signature attacks, finisher and custom combo. Pages 22 -23: Muta's recommended match against Nobuhiko Takada. Around the same time, Great Muta's alter-ego Keiji Mutoh had a high-profile matchup against Takada. Since Mutoh isn't in Iron Slam, fans had to make due with the limited roster at the time. Pages 24 - 25: Nobuhisa Sanada (Nobuhiko Takada). Takada's profile reads: "A genuine fighter who pursues professional wrestling as the most powerful combat sport in the world. He has a good balance of striking, throwing and joint techniques. His specialty is a Sharp Kick, which accurately smashes the enemy's head with precision".
Pages 26 - 27: Takada's signature attacks, finisher and custom combos. Pages 28 - 29: Takada's recommended matchup against Big Van Vader. I recall watching the actual match in question. If I remember correctly, the matchup took place in the now-defunct UWFI promotion. Vader lost the match from an Armbar applied by Takada, resulting in the Mastodon being carried out on a stretcher with an arm brace. Pages 30 - 31: Mitsuhide Hikawa (Mitsuharu Misawa). Misawa's profile reads: "Hikawa's main strengths are flying techniques that take advantage of elbow speed and kicking techniques He also possesses many powerful choke and throw techniques, making him an all-powerful player who can respond to his opponents".
Pages 32 - 33: Misawa's signature attacks, finisher and custom combo. Pages 34 - 35: Misawa's recommended match is against fellow All Japan Pro-Wrestling legend Stan Hansen.

Pages 36 - 37: Star Bison (Stan Hansen). Stan Hansen's bio reads: "This is a super heavyweight! He's good at brute force tactics such as pushing with power. A strong, aggressive fighter with a strong, strong armour. Star crushes the enemy with a single swing of his arm. The Lariat is his special move".

Pages 38 - 39: Stan Hansen's signature attacks, finisher and custom combo. Pages 40 - 41: Stan Hansen's recommended match is against Hulk Hogan. Pages 42 - 43: 'American Dream' Axe Duggan (Hulk Hogan).
Hogan's profile reads: "He has the physique of a bodybuilder. As can be seen from his physique, he is a typical power fighter. All his techniques are dynamic, especially the Dugan Hammer, which has a devastating power."
Pages 44 - 45: Hogan's signature attacks, finisher and custom combo.
Pages 46 - 47: Hogan's recommended dream match, as expected, is against Stan Hansen. Pages 48 - 49: The Saber (Big Van Vader). Vader's bio reads: "His main feature is the way he uses his heavyweight body to kill enemies.. Even an ordinary arm punch or bear hug can become powerful. He is also very nimble regardless of his position, and can easily do things such as the moonsault Press."
Pages 50 - 51: Vader's signature attacks, finisher and custom combo. Pages 52 - 53: Vader's recommended match is against Antonio Inoki. Just recently, I chose Vader's match against Antonio Inoki (dubbed the infamous 'sumo hall riot') as my pick for the most notorious, underrated Wrestling match of the 1980's. A submission that was part of a recent episode of VGWA's Wrestling retrospective.

After a couple of months, I am back again with a brand new Canon scanner (my last one crapped out on me during the scanning of this guidebook). Let's pick up where we left off: Pages 54 - 55: Joe Kajiwara (Yoshiaki Fujiwara).

I finally got my new scanner up and running again. It was glitching out with it's wireless connectivity. Then my computer needed to be reformatted. Now I'm using it via good ol' fashioned USB ...and voila! Pages 56 - 57: Fujiwara's signature attacks and custom combos. Pages 58 - 59: Fujiwara's recommended match against fellow UWF veteran Akira Maeda. Pages 60 - 61: Akira Saeba (Akira Maeda)

Pages 62 - 63: Akira Maeda's signature moves, finisher and custom combos. Pages 64 - 65: Maeda's recommended match is fellow UWF alumni Nobuhiko Takada. Pages 66 - 67: the first hidden boss character. Sub boss Minoru Randori (Shinobu Kandori). Yes, after much confusion going back over the years ...this boss IS in fact based on a Joshi Wrestler. The guide's description mentions as such, along with the Wrestler's physical attributes being closer to that of a woman.
Pages 68 - 69: Minoru's signature moves, finisher and custom combo. Pages 70 - 71: Minoru's recommended match is against Yoshiaki Fujiwara; who helped train Suzuki. Pages 72 - 73: hidden final boss character Killer Musashi (Antonio Inoki). Pages 74 - 75: Inoki's signature moves, finisher and custom combo. Pages 76 - 77: Inoki's recommended match against Akira Maeda.

Update: pages 90 - 91 were re-added, as the image-server glitch gremlin felt like removing it. Hopefully, the missing pages appear now.
