It's really hard to set up cpu logic before returns since their is no way to set up a chain. Is there a different way y'all went about cpu logic back in the day?

One tip I can give that I've seen the old-schoolers do is to strictly regulate when people end up face-up or face-down in large damage. Never set the logic to roll over in large damage, put pins 100% on face down, and then make the only moves that leave the opponent face down finishers or sigs.
Between that and making liberal use of moves with built-in pins, I think those are the main things you can do.
