THE STEAM DECKSo Fire Pro Wrestling World on Steam Steam is making a sort of "console" to play your Steam library of games on, but it is Linux based. Will that effect things and features of this game such as the folder system for using images, mp3s, ect? Would we might need to wait for the Steam Deck to have a Windows interface later? (You'd have to buy a license for Windows) And generally we can just talk about any connections of this up coming portable computer as it pertains to Fire Pro Wrestling World. Also if anyone wants to make a good topic about this and do it FAQ style when answers become available please do. I just wanted to see some early balls rolling on talk about this as it might be a great way to play Fire Pro if all the features will work well.

Fire pro on the go was my first thought. Being able to work on edits while waiting for laundry or on a long plane ride would be great. Totally gonna wait and see however.

(You'd have to buy a license for Windows) These are all really good questions 🙋♂️ Fire Pro is the game I play 75% of the time in general and like 90% on Steam. So as soon as I saw the Steam Deck, my thoughts went to playing Fire Pro on the Go. I didn't even think about how file management would work. I guess I kind of assumed that Steam Cloud would be enabled so I'd do all the file management stuff on the PC and import stuff into the game there...and then just use the Steam Deck for in game customization and stuff like that. I don't really know enough about the Steam Deck plans in regards to what the interface will be and whether or not people will be able to use a custom built OS for it or another version of Windows.

It looks like they took the Steam Controller and ripped a hole into it to insert a monitor. It doesn't look very comfortable to me at all.

I agree it doesnt look comfortable, it seems very heavy, and the price point is a little ridiculous to be honest.
For fire pro it seems even less interesting seeing as cloud saves are a mess for the game so I dont know how you'd reliably transfer saves, and there's virtually no chance mods would make it over (a big turnoff for me personally). For other steam games I guess I'll have to see but for now its a pretty hard pass for me.

Yeah, very good point about the mods and issues with cloud saves. I really haven't' checked out the specs for the Deck yet but my guess is there are a few different data ports. Maybe they intend, or allow, people to port files over that way to use as saves? It definitely does look heavy bordering on the unwieldy. I suppose for someone who travels a lot who either doesn't have a laptop or only has a work laptop (that they can't install Steam on), this would be an option. I could see taking it on a long train or plane ride and be entertained. But I'd rather have a laptop where I could also do other stuff like watch TV or movies. It really just depends on what someone is looking for. For "Fire Pro on the go" it's hard to say what the better option is but I could see it working for some people. For me, if $600 just kind of spontaneously erupts in my face, I'm making it rain on a Switch 🍄 But that's cause I already have access to Steam games but am as Switchless as Abe Simpson.

OS is 500% not a concern. I've been playing Fire Pro World on Linux for over a year without a single issue. The Steam Deck uses a modified version of Arch Linux and Fire Pro will run like a charm on it. I can't speak to mods as I don't mod, but as far as I'm aware there are no major issues that should keep modding from being possible.
In general, a surprising number of games work completely out of the box. The only things I regularly have trouble with are my various Falcom games because Falcom insists on using some poorly-supported video codecs for cutscenes.
But just to give an example, here's a quick list of games I've been playing over the last year on a Linux PC with no issues whatsoever: Dark Souls 1-3 Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice Fire Pro Wrestling World Code Vein Guilty Gear XX Accent Core +R Hitman Hitman 2 Max Payne Max Payne 2 Nier: Automata Shadowrun: Dragonfall Cities: Skylines Stellaris Star Trek Online XCOM: Enemy Unknown
I've also been playing a pissload of Guilty Gear Strive on Linux, but I get occasional slowdown or framerates issues in that. Always clears up with a quick restart of the game though.
ALL THAT SAID, I think the Steam Deck looks too large and heavy for a handheld for my tastes, and I'm not a fan of the control layout.

Absolutely hyped for it tbh. Not only for Fire Pro but looking at the specs this thing should be an emulation BEAST! I’ve been thinking about getting a newer laptop for some time now but this thing just ticks too many boxes to pass up.
My only concerns lie with the battery life and general ergonomics but with that said, the Wii U gamepad is arguably my favourite controller of all time (unpopular opinion I know) so I think the ergonomics will be less of an issue than I initially thought.

You may be our guinea pig, Faulk.
Haven't seen a lot of talk about it anywhere.

It's Deck Verified by Valve and listed as Platinum on ProtonDB. You shouldn't run into any trouble. That said I don't own a Steam Deck so I can't personally speak to it, and the number of Deck owner samples on ProtonDB appears to be one dude saying it works fine.

I found an article about the steam deck saying fire pro runs well. I guess my main worry is gonna be the save sync issue.
I'm hoping it works out great. it'll allow me to actually be able to put some real time into working on edits again.

I do most of my play of Fire Pro on Steam Deck, and can additionally confirm "yes, it handles really nice to play" - its responsive in play, quick on load times. That last isn't really going to be surprising, this isn't exactly a "PUSH YOUR GRAPHICS CARD TO THE LIMITTTTTTTT" sort of game; but I can't testify to any slowdown on start up folks might have if they were enthusiastic about downloading from the workshop - I haven't noticed much difference yet.
So far, my gameplay on a Steam Deck has been edit making, simulations to test - my imagined "best case" work flow for doing stuff for recording in the nebulous future is Make/Test/Refine on Steck > Set up Desktop/Laptop to handle image files/mp3s > Record and/or stream from desktop for a rich multimedia experience. (You could also stream from Steck, use file folders in the Steam Deck to cut out all those middle men, but I admit I haven't played with any of that at all)

Ok awesome I really wanted to work on edits and test on deck and then record and screenshot on desktop. So that sounds perfect. Thanks for letting us know.
