For those that wish their copy of Minecraft had more Pro-Wrestling legends, look no further than: Chiki Chiki Boxy Pro Wrestling/ Chiki Chiki Pro Wrestling Brawl チキチキプロレス大乱闘 (Nintendo Switch):
The guy on the left looks like Genichiro Tenryu. Middle is clearly Antonio Inoki. Lucha on the left looks like a mix between Mil Mascaras and Jushin Liger (even has his mask's fangs and eye slits).
Have you ever wanted to pit Street Fighter's Blanka against Keiji Mutoh and Donald Trump in block form? With his cowboy vest, red and black tights and brown hair, I'll say the legend on the right is Terry Funk. By the looks of it, you can edit or create your own Wrestlers! This character is known as "Lucky Casino". In the background is Tiger Mask. But ...have you ever wondered what South Park's officer Barbrady would look like rocking Stone Cold's vest? I've included a video below in case anyone would like to check the game out in action:

I think Heihachi ticks enough boxes of various character archetypes that he's ultimately his own unique character. He's a hyper-ambitious and incomprehensibly successful businessman with an iron heart/will/head who funds most of the Tekken tournaments for his own gain while simultaneously pushing his own limits as a martial artist to the point that he has quasi-superhuman powers (when Tekken debuted, that really meant something; not so much anymore). I'd argue that as far as inspirations go, he's closer to Geese Howard than anybody but it's such a thin comparison that I don't think it has any real merit. Very well put, Heihachi is easily my favourite fighting game character, you feel like a beast when you use him, his moves ooze power and feel very unique to him as a character. I’ve always loved the idea of him getting his hands bloody even though he bankrolls the tournament, like I’ve got the cash to bring the best to me, and I’m going to stomp the shit out of all of them while they’re here. Tekken 7 was worth the price of admission just for the Heihachi / Akuma fight. Yeah, Heihachi is definitely his own (game world) man! PS: why is no one selling the Heihachi themed NJPW shirt?! 😠

Before we discuss WCW Vs NWO World Tour and Saturday Night Slam Masters' rosters, I'm going to throw another random thought out for everyone's consideration:
Mortal Kombat's Shao Khan. Khan's attire looks similar to He Man. The shogun skull helmet looks like a cross between Skeletor and TMNT's Shredder.
Come to think about it, different coloured headbands for the turtles...different coloured Mortal Kombat ninjas. Or...they're just likely palette swaps.

Come to think about it, different coloured headbands for the turtles...different coloured Mortal Kombat ninjas. Or...they're just likely palette swaps. They went with the coloured ones when Eastman and laird were brought armoured trucks full of money to licence the concept for toys and the toy selling cartoon series, easier for kids to remember who each one was, and besides, if they all had red masks (like they did originally), you wouldn’t need to buy all four figures! So yeah, they all originally had red masks until they became the pizza loving heroes in a half shell (shudder) that we know now!

^in contrast, I think MK used palette swaps in MK1-Trilogy to save time and money. Can't say it didn't work for them as almost all of the palette swapped characters remain relatively popular among the fandom (and thus, people happily buy them when they're withheld from base rosters and released as DLC; can't say that I like the practice but I can't argue with the success of that model, sadly)
it amuses me when people create online furors over certain characters being omitted
I say wait enough "seasons," and they'll show up eventually
unless it's Reptile whom Ed Boon personally detests xD

WCW Vs NWO World Tour (N64)The western port of Virtual Pro Wrestling 64 with only a portion of Virtual 64's roster. Sumo Jo: doesn't Sumo's character portrait look like Sylvester Stallone? Alas, it's Genichiro Tenryu. Kim Chee: retaining his WCW Vs The World rename, this fighter is based on Koji Kitao. Blackheart: The portrait looks like Haku, but it's Tarzan Goto Puchteca: Atsushi Onita with the same awful rename. Hannibal: Hayabusa Powder Keg: The Youngbucks? I kid. It's Samson Fuyuki. Dim Sum: Jado Saladin: the portrait looks like Iron Sheik; but it's Abdullah The Butcher, bubba. In WCW Vs The World, Saladin was the name used for Genichiro Tenryu. Ali Baba: contrary to certain online guides, this character is NOT The Original Sheik. It's Tiger Jeet Singh. Black Ninja: replacing Sasuke's iconic mask for a generic ninja one, The Black Ninja is The Great Sasuke. Shaolin: Jinsei Shinzaki/Hakushi. The Unknown: Super Delfin. The Claw: Gran Naniwa. Black Belt: that portrait's haircut is approaching Vince McMahon territory, but it's TAKA Michinoku. PacoLoco: Dick Togo. Shaman: Shunji Takano Master Fuji: don't worry about being ribbed with this likeness. It's actually Yoshiaki Fujiwara. Joe Bruiser: hidden rename #1 Muhamad Ali Black Widow: hidden rename #2 Manami Toyota Suplex SagaSince this thread serves as a showcase for many obscure gems, this indie game was brought to my attention recently: The lead male character looks like Hiroshi Tanahashi while that cat hybrid is approaching Tiger Mask territory. Suplex Saga is a Pro-Wrestling RPG that is currently in development. You can get all the latest info here: twitter.com/SuplexSaga?s=09&fbclid=IwAR0UZhL4Cw02vR6o2o_a4VXbd7k_TcVc37G-p-sNnKrFG0bDQN1devGnHHE Samurai Shodown:
In the early 1990's when Street Fighter II was ruling arcades and just about every fighter was firing some kind of fireball, Samurai Shodown stood out from the pack with actual weapons. In this comment, I'll be taking a look at two characters from the Shodown series: Earthquake is a gigantic competitor from the U.S. that reminds me of Heart from Hokuto No Ken. According to the SNK wiki: Earthquake may possibly be a reference to Mr. Pogo, a wrestler mostly prominent in the '90s. Mr. Pogo was overweight and noted for his cruelty, carrying a kusarigama into the ring and breathing fire on his opponents. In addition, Mr. Pogo wore a jagged blue facepaint pattern, was considered a greedy mercantile wrestler who would only follow the money, and first got his claim to fame wrestling as a villainous ninja in Texas wrestling shows. I've always thought that Mayan warrior Tam Tam was loosely based on Great Muta. But that's just a theory. Other than appearance, they have little in common.

Growing up in the early 90's, I was fortunate enough to catch the tail-end of the fighting game craze and arcade scene. For a short time, my family lived in Southport, North Carolina from 1996-1998. Every Friday after School my parents would take my brother and I to Southport Video (which was a 5 minute walk from our house). I still remember the layout: SNES games next to the register while PS1 games were at the back of the store. At the other end of the store was a small room that served as a mini arcade. On one end, you had a Wheel of Fortune pinball game; the other, Tekken 1, Darkstalkers and Samurai Shodown all side-by-side. In the impossible quest of playing every SNES game Southport Video had, the one rule my parents had when renting games was: "never rent the same game twice". Street Fighter Turbo, Alpha 2 & New Challengers, WWF The Arcade Game, Tuff Enuff, TMNT Tournament Fighters, Donkey Kong Country 2 & 3, Fatal Fury, Primal Rage, Kirby 8 games in 1 and World Heroes were just a sample of the games we rented. Having purchased a Sony Playstation just before we moved back to Canada in 1998, we sadly never did get to rent all of the SNES games Southport Video had to offer. But, just before we moved, our last rentals were: Fighting Force and the recently released Tekken 3. All the big gaming publications in the west were talking about Tekken 3. The covers caught your eye immediately. The first game we played on our Sony Playstation was Fighting Force; which hasn't aged too gracefully. Then it came time to pop in Tekken 3. I'll never forget what my Dad said after watching Heihachi step out of his helicopter during Tekken 3's movie-like CG intro "wow, this game is already better!"
One game that I never had the privilege of renting was Saturday Night Slam Masters/ Muscle Bomber: Biff Slamkovich / Aleksey Zalalof - refers to Street Fighter's Zangief as a comrade and looks like the prototype of Street Fighter's Alex. Has a Tombstone Piledriver. Gunloc / Lucky Colt - from his name alone, I always thought this was supposed to a loose reference to Stan Hansen. His finisher is the Powerslam and is said to be one of Mike Haggar's apprentices. The Great Oni / Mysterious Budo - A mixture of The Great Muta and The Great Kabuki. Titanic Tim / Titan The Great - Andre The Giant. El Stinger / El Stingray - some speculate that Stinger is based on Luchador's El Volador and Blue Demon. Mike Haggar - over the years, fans have speculated that Mike Haggar is based on Jesse The Body Ventura's appearance in the 1987 flick The Running Man. Alexander The Grater /Sheep The Royal - Big Van Vader King Rasta Mon / Missing IQ Gomes - Bruiser Brody Hidden boss characters The Scorpion / Astro is based on Luchador Tinieblas while Jumbo Flapjack / Kimala The Bouncer is a mixture of Earthquake and Kamala. Victor Ortega is obviously based on Hulk Hogan.

Have you ever wondered how Wrestling holds and attacks were programmed for Tekken 1 and Tekken 2? Here's some behind the scenes photos from 1994 and 1995 as well as a portion of an interview with a staff member from the period: Yutaka Kunoue (who worked as a developer on the first 3 Tekken games) had this to say: The creation of motion data was hard work because automated motion-capture technology was still in its infancy, meaning that animation had to be done by hand: "Essentially, we hardly used motion capture at all for Tekken 1 and 2" Kounoe reveals. At that point, motion capture was just a developing industry, so we used a magnetic system to capture a portion of the movements we required. This was a method where everything had to be recorded with cables attached, and it wasn't suited to intense action, so we could only use it for reference. However, the promotional department leveraged the appeal of motion-capture technology for marketing, and made out that we had used it extensively. The motion in Tekken was minutely adjusted to perfection, frame by frame, so even if we had used motion capture, we would have had to redo most of it anyway."
The full interview can be found here: www.avoidingthepuddle.com/news/2015/5/3/the-making-of-tekken-with-yutaka-kounoe.htmlBy Tekken 3, did you know two famous Japanese Wrestlers were used to motion capture King's moveset? Minoru Suzuki and Osami Shibuya. And, the full interview for this segment can be found here: web.archive.org/web/20090628031835/http://www.computerandvideogames.com/article.php?id=11177Masakatsu Funaki also did the Japanese voice dub of Bruce Lee look-alike Fei Long in Street Fighter II The Animated Movie from 1994. Going back to Tekken's customization feature, let's take a look at another Wrestler reference, the Tekken equivalent of Black Tiger Mask -Armor King: Armored Shoulder is most likely based on The Road Warrior's spiked shoulder pads. Evil Eye reminds me of Sagat's eyepatch. Can't put my finger on which belt this Champion Belt is based off of (could be a CMLL or similar belt). Black Pants look awfully similar to the pants worn by Shinya Hashimoto. The style of these pants are also used in Savate. Granted, most of Armour King's other clothing items look like they were lifted out of Soul Calibur III's edit mode (mainly from Siegfried/Nightmare). Let's take a look at Tekken's Bob Sapp look-alike Craig Marduk: Habergeon: Marduk has a few armor pieces, but this chain mail will make Tekken fans want to "holla" along with "Big Papa Pump" Scott Steiner. Add Marduk's sunglasses and you'll be all set for a WCW taping. Restraint Mask: playing on Marduk's convicted murderer backstory, Restraint Mask is a tribute to Hannibal Lecter. Facial Tattoo: based on Mike Tyson's eye tattoo. Originally, Tyson wanted hearts tattooed around his eye instead... Bully Beard: Mr. T.'s beard and mohawk were deceptively split into two separate edit pieces. Champion's Belt - Looks like an American Heavyweight championship from the 1970's-1980's. Big Van Vader would sling his championship belt over his shoulder in a similar fashion when competing in Pro-Wrestling NOAH. Champion's Belt - The waist version reminds me of NOAH's GHC - Global Honoured Crown championship. Splatter Mask - is both a tribute to Friday The 13th's Jason Voorhees and the Namco arcade classic Splatterhouse. Heavy Chain - could be another reference to Bruiser Brody. In Tekken Tag Tournament 2, Marduk can be equipped with The Destroyer's mask.

While browsing facebook today, these screenshots appeared on my newsfeed: In the recently released Retromania Wrestling (which is being billed as the "official sequel to Wrestlefest"), you may notice a cameo appearance of a Wrestler likeness we already talked about from another modern Wrestling title. Lazer (Sting - Surfer Sting era) from 80's Mania Wrestling Returns. If more likenesses were added (such as the Muta, Liger, Brody, etc look-alikes), I'd definitely consider purchasing Retromania Wrestling. Speaking of new discoveries: this month's update to 80's Mania Wrestling Returns adds another recognizable legend to the game's roster: Willy Mammoth - whom I believe is based on the late Giant Haystacks. Also, these photos were sent to me by our good friend Apathy. More behind the scenes shots of Minoru Suzuki performing motion capture duties for King's moveset in Tekken 3:

I knew it! I knew I could feel the spirit and the anti-love of a head cracking curmudgeon in the tekken fighters move sets! This news endears me to the series even more! 😍
Thanks, this is really cool!

A few months ago, a handful of forum members suggested a CAW mode within Retromania's steam discussion page. At the time, the staff stated they would consider adding such a mode if Retromania sold enough copies.
I agreed that a CAW mode and a workshop would add all kinds of shelf-life to the game; all the while skirting around licensing issues by following a similar practice to Fire Pro World.
Give us the necessary pieces and we can fill in the gaps for the original Wrestlefest roster.

Over the past few months, we've covered a lot of games. With everyone's input so far, I think we could write our own book with the references we've provided so far. Having said that, there's still plenty of games to go through. Here's a video game franchise that was brought to my attention only a few days ago: Baki The Grappler
Think the violence of Fist Of North Star meets the Pro-Wrestling environment of Tiger Mask or Kinnikuman. The Japanese and Western video game adaptations. There's also an Android game. The Baki series is rich with real-life Pro Wrestler references. So much so, that I may require a few posts to go through them all: Mount Toba - Giant Baba Kanji Igari - Antonio Inoki (also uses Inoki's real birthname "Kanji"). Rikigouzan - Rikidozan Jack Hanma - Dynamite Kid Doppo Orochi - Mas Oyama with hints of Fritz Von Erich appears under his real name. Street Fighter's Sagat Iron Michael - Mike Tyson Joe Crasier - based on boxer Joe Frazier George Foreman appears under his real name. Dickson - Rickson Gracie Andreas Regan - El Gigante (check out the Hulkamania shirt!). Regan was voiced by Pro-Wrestler Shinya Hashimoto. Also, in the background, you'll notice The Ultimate Warrior! "American Pro Wrestler" looks like a 1980's Bret Hart. Reiichi Andou - Andre The Giant Legendary Wrestler Hackenschmidt appears George Bosch - U.S. President George Bush under his own name. Hinary - Hilary Clinton Barack Osma - Barack Obama John F. Kennedy - under his own name. Alexander Gallen - Alexander Karilyn
