Not completely off-topic but I did do a brief history on the fire Pro series and I did give this website and specifically shadow master a shout out at the end. Thanks for all the interesting and informative content! This is great! I’ve seen screenshots of the games mentioned in this video, but to see them in action is something special, especially in the context of the development stories! Thank you for putting this together, it’s crazy what those guys could do on a cartridge! Super Fire Pro-Wrestling Special 2 is especially intriguing, Shadowmaster’s rundown of getting the best ending and the Muta credits thing, I miss unlockable stuff, these games were labours of love. Getting x premium on a cartridge is a testament to the skill of the folks at HUMAN! Thanks to all of you for keeping this awesome gem of a series alive and well documented, especially the original titles! 😁

Are you ready to take a look at some more Modern Mania Wrestling references? Let's dive right in: SlashMaster, a Wrestler that also appeared in 80's Mania Wrestling. SlashMaster is a mixture of Jason Voorhees, The Undertaker and Freddy Krueger. Catch is AEW's Hook. Will Ospreay. Kevin Owens. At first I thought he was Hannibal. Killer Kross and Scarlett Bordeaux. Slapstick is The Joker. From Modern Mania Wrestling's official Twitter write-up:
" If there was ever a hero who could handle the weight of the world and still have time to talk some smack, it's this guy!
PRESIDENT HUNK is the final 8MWR ICON arriving in MMW!
He'll act as a both a Celebrity AND Wrestler." So, President Hunk is, in fact, The Rock! I'm sensing Darby Allin vibes here. Tetsuya Naito. Right down to the hint at the open eye taunt. Princess Starbright returns with hints of WWE's Asuka thrown in. Any thoughts? Another returning character from 80's Mania Wrestling. Looks like a female version of Destro. Tessa Blanchard. Some say there's a Mia Yim inclusion in here, too. More gender swapped Wrestlers returning from 80's Mania Wrestling. The developers stated the reference comes from Insectoids from the 80's. Personally, I can see Io Shirai on the left and Toni Storm on the right. The IIconics. Johnny Gargano.

Celestria perhaps = Nikkita Lyons, or maybe old version Beth Phoenix?
Just a thought

Beth Phoenix is a name that came to mind. Though, there is an official forum you can check likenesses here (though, still no mention of Celestia): 80smaniawrestling.proboards.com/thread/1712/parody-reference-list-spoilersConnor McGregor Mustafa Ali with Prince of Persia overtones. Mortal Kombat's Kitana and Mileena. I'm also hearing Chiyome could be Bea Priestley or Black Lotus Triad from Lucha Underground. Jushin Thunder Liger. Luchasaurus. I'm also hearing bits of Venom and Demon Finn Balor. Apparently, this duo is based on The Miz and Maryse. Rumour has it that this is Ronda Rousey. The name certainly fits. Bianca Belair. At first I thought this team was Jado and Gedo. I believe they are actually based on The Briscoe Brothers.

The last batch of decent-sized character art from Modern Mania Wrestling's official Twitter account: Thanos. Dave Batista. Kazuchika Okada. Richohet. Charlotte Flair. The theory is this character is the protagonist from Red Dead Redemption. Like 80's Mania Wrestling, it's not uncommon for one character to feature more than one likeness. As for the case of Winter, I've read she could be a mixture of the princess from Disney's Frozen and Becky Lynch. I'm hearing Seth Rollins for this one. Dragon Ball Z's Nappa and Tomohiro Ishii.

80's Mania Wrestling has a brand new Japanese Wrestler. Known as Mega Gyo, here's his official profile writeup: "Trained in both Japan and Mexico, MEGA GYO utilizes a unique lucha libre style to scale up his collection of title belts!"Based on the underwater motif and neon colours, I thought Gyo was based on Super Delfin at first glance. Nope. Gyo is based on Ultimo Dragon.

Years ago, I wrote the GameFAQ for Super Fire Pro-Wrestling 2 (my old GameFAQ's handle is fire_pro_fan). While putting together the cheats section, I was translating codes from Japanese cheat sites. One of which involved unlocking the female referee. The code I wrote was: " Hold L while selecting a Wrestler, then Hold R + Start before the match". Truthfully, I myself never got the code to work. It wasn't until yesterday (with trial and error) that I found out the code was incorrect. The correct way to unlock the female referee in Super Fire Pro-Wrestling 2 is as follows: At the pre-match screen (second picture) press (not hold) L + R + START simultaneously. Do not press any other buttons. If inputted correctly, the screen will advance on it's own and the female referee will be unlocked.
In the past, I noted the female referee bears a strong resemblance to Megumi Kudo - even with the updated attire for this game.

We're going back to 1986 for this next entry:
Championship Wrestling:
A mid 1980's Wrestling game that was ported to many home computers of the era. Right off the bat, I can see a Hulk Hogan and Road Warrior Animal reference. Doncha just love the cartoonish artwork for the second cover? It certainly captures the frenzy and fervor of Wrestling's territory days. The title screen contains who I think we can all agree is a Wrestler supposed to be Ric Flair! There are eight Wrestlers to choose from. Each with their own witty retorts and profiles. All of which seem to be based on real-life Wrestlers. K.C. Colossus: Hulk Hogan Purple Hays: Not Michael P.S. Hayes (though, that could have been the name inspiration). I think this Wrestler being black with the mutton chops and mohawk-like haircut seems to be based on Mr. T. - This is 1986 after all. Col. Roosh: Nikita Koloff P. Vicious: I believe this is supposed to be a reference to "Adorable" Adrian Adonis as Sid Vicious wouldn't debut until the following year. Zantoklaw: His mask brings to mind The Destroyer. Zeke Weasel: A farmboy in overalls and a big bushy beard? Clearly based on Hillbilly Jim. Berserker: One of the most ambiguous of the bunch. Looks like a mix of the Road Warriors. H. Manslayer: Your typical Native American gimmick. Could be a reference to Chief Wahoo McDaniel.

Thought I'd let everyone know that I just purchased three more guidebooks to scan:
Super Fire Pro-Wrestling III Edit Wrestler Book (スーパーファイヤープロレスリング3 エディットレスラーブック)
Super Fire Pro-Wrestling Special Edit Wrestler Book スーパーファイヤープロレスリング スペシャル エディットレスラーブック)
Super Fire Pro-Wrestling 2 Winning Strategy Special (スーパーファイヤープロレスリング2 必勝法 スペシャル) The Super Fire Pro-Wrestling III Edit Wrestler Book features 87 custom-created Wrestler formulas made using Final Bout's Edit mode. All 87 Wrestlers were already identified here in another thread (and I'm told all of the pages are available to share upon request), but I thought I'd make the guide readily available anyway. Besides Wrestler formulas, there's also screenshots of every edit plus Wrestler illustrations and an interview with Ultimo Dragon. The Super Fire Pro-Wrestling Special Edit Wrestler Book contains formulas for 69 Wrestlers, illustrations of the Wrestlers, plus an interview with SUDA51 (Goichi Suda). Super Fire Pro-Wrestling 2's Winning Strategy Special contains an interview with Minoru Suzuki, Wrestler data and what looks like "Wrestler Pattern". This could be tabbed out Wrestler logic (strange for a game that didn't have an edit mode yet) or how to select the different attires for each Wrestler.

Ted DiBiase, Ric Flair and Andre The Giant in an early Fire Pro game?!! Speaking of guidebooks and Wrestler references, I just finished scanning all 86 pages for the following book: The name of this guidebook is スーパーファイヤープロレスリング3ファイナルバウト 完全データ集 王者への聖書 which roughly translates to "Super Fire Pro Wrestling 3 Final Bout Complete Data Book The Bible to the Champion". While not as exciting as the rest of the guides, the guide does include custom created versions of what could be the very first Fire Pro interpretations of Ted DiBiase, Ric Flair, and Andre The Giant! You can check out the full guide here: criticalclub.com/thread/1789/guidebook-scans-final-complete-bible?page=1&scrollTo=55045

All three guides just arrived today from Japan safe and sound. Out of the bunch, Super Fire Pro-Wrestling 2's book surprisingly contains the most illustrations and wacky content. A sneak peek at SFPW2's guide: I love the retro illustrations (and surprisingly couldn't find any samples of them online before making this purchase). Stay tuned for the scans.
