I just loved what all of you did with this game. That's all. I lived vicariously through what you people built using a video game.
I always wanted to make something and share it with everyone. I talked about it from time to time. I just held myself to a standard that I felt I could never meet. So I never got started. Life story there for me. I had so many ideas.
MONARCHY Pro was something I mentioned in passing in one of those C-Drive in-character promo/story combos. This was going to be it's theme song. It had some sort of King/Queen/Jack theme, and I believe was going to be 52 wrestlers competing. There was going to be a nWo style faction called - wait for it - ANARCHY. (Sorry bfx)
Multiple times over the years, I had this obsession about creating a pro wrestling sports league with city-based teams. The teams were composed of different classes of wrestler, a Heavyweight, a Junior, a Tag Team, a Women's, a Cruiser. I was inspired a lot in that area by ScorpioKid's Tecmo World Cup. The matches in a card would have each member of each weight class face each other. Points would be applied based on the wins, Heavyweight wins giving higher points and being weighted more toward a win. Cards would end with sport-style scores. New York Red Dogs win 6-4 over the L.A. Air Raid. It would lead up to a playoff series and a championship game. It would have ran on a season with weekly match-ups. It would have had weekly standings. It was professional wrestling dyed in the wool of professional sports.
It never lived beyond a spreadsheet.
Are you reading this? Do you have something you want to create and share? For the sake of Fire Pro - do it. The creators that built using this game series is why there now exists Fire Pro Wrestling World. I honestly believe that. Make sure YOU use this game to continue that legacy of creation.
People are always surprised when they find out I never really played this game. If someone is a fan of movies, do they have to make them? Does a lover of art museums have to pick up the paintbrush?
That's why I was here.
What follows is why I won't be.
This past weekend I learned something I didn't want to know, and in that moment I kind of knew that was it. Trying to step away had been gnawing at me months prior to this. I was just worried about stepping away. The voices in my head that told me how I could never create anything good enough were speaking up...
"The PlayStation 4 release is just over the horizon - just stay a few months through that to make sure you promote it best you can."
"If you step away you've got to find people to take over each part of the community that will devote as much to it as you can and do."
"Honestly this twitter is the only thing you do that shows any results."
I hardly knew the other guy. I was the public face of the old place. A place that suddenly had a stain you can't wash out.
I'm stepping away from this community because I've honestly felt I've needed to for a while now. The news from the past weekend just cements it.
I may not have played Fire Pro, but I've played my part in the story of this community and I've enjoyed that part and living through all your creations.
With tears,
Thank Yous in no particular order:
OrochiGeese - you are the cornerstone of this community and a shining beaming light of positivity in any darkness
SkullTrauma - STUFF was a high water mark of Fire Pro Wrestling Returns edits, please come back in some way
