True, I remember them saying it at least twice before in the past 3-5 years 😁
I am looking forward to it though. "Days Go By" was easily my favorite album of theirs since Americana and I really liked "Rise and Fall, Rage and Grace" as well. So I hope they just go with the direction they feel like and don't feel pressured to make "Smash" again.

I happened to remember this scene. It seemed relevant to what we were just talking about.

Electronic duo Daft Punk have called it quits after 28 years.
While I'm very sad as they are one of the many musical acts I grew to admire a lot while I was growing up (even a part of the space theme my E-Feds run under was inspired by them), I feel like it was inevitable after so many years of inconsistent activity.
I greatly respect just how much they were able to succeed in not only the electronic music genre, but in music in general. Their Grammy success years ago was one of my favorite moments in music because I feel like they finally got the respect they deserved.
It will be a different scene without them, but I hope the current and future acts in music help make their legacy live on.

One of the best songs from the Twin Peaks Return soundtrack. The day after I heard this song I put it on my mp3 player and put it on repeat at work for like two hours.
The band Wind Rose is also responsible for the metal cover version of the Diggy Diggy Hole song associated with Deep Rock Galactic.

Thanks! 👏
You know this has been out for like a week or two and I just haven't brought myself to watch/listen to it yet.
I'm often underwhelmed by the first singles they put out to introduce a new album. After the long wait for this one, I'm a bit nervous to see this in case it's a too "Original Prankster" and not enough "Smash." Still, I've had enough experience with them to be able to still be optimistic for the album regardless of the first single.
(I remember hearing Original Prankster for the first time ever in a taxi and just face palming 😁 )

Honestly it didn't leave a good first impression on me but I'm just not into them like I used to be. I'll always remember what they meant to my younger self, though, so at least they have that.
And yeah, Original Prankster was trying too hard to be another Pretty Fly.

Yeah, I feel that way too overall. Even if I don't like this album, it's not going to change the experience I had with them. But like many of the other bands I used to like, it's possible they just don't have the same impact on me now. That's fine - but I'm still going to be somewhat optimistic about the album even if this song doesn't do it for me.
There are some parts of both Original Prankster and Pretty Fly that I like but overall I was not really a fan of either song. That whole period was my least favorite of their career. A lot of Conspiracy of One and Splinter didn't do it for me either. You could probably split Ixnay and Americana, take the good of both, and create a great album from it. That was kind of the turning point for me where I stopped enjoying a lot of what they were doing.
"Rise and Fall, Rage and Grace" was a shock cause they won me back by doing things I wouldn't have even expected that I'd like but with an authenticity that I respected. It's like they stopped trying to emulate their KOF '94 version using the Smash DM and just played what they felt like playing. (Maybe Dexter's doctorate degree allowed him to see past the K' clones?) They did that even more with "Days Go By."
I loved the first 3 albums and one reason was because they clearly wanted to play that music. Even if the new album isn't in my style, I'll probably still enjoy it if I feel like it's the style they want to do. I've kind of surprised myself over the past few years in being open to music in styles not traditionally my favorite but done with people who are truly expressing themselves. It may not necessarily occupy my head to the same extent that my favorite styles do, but I'll enjoy it and be open to listening to more.

It's kinda funny because Pretty Fly was the song that finally put them on my radar. It really is an obnoxious song, though.
I listened to the Americana album a lot when I first got it and it made me check out their earlier albums. That made me realize I'd heard Come Out And Play before once.
It also basically led me to an interest in punk rock, even though I think this was my actual first exposure to the genre:

The first song for me was "Come out and Play" back when it was playing on the radio and on MTV. I liked the song but that was such a packed summer and year for discovering new bands. So it didn't really stand out. It was "Self Esteem" that made me an instant fan - despite that not really being much of a punk song! I had the time to work all the way through Smash and then backward through to their first album before Ixnay came out. Ignition will always be my favorite and I'm glad I got to hear that and the first album before Ixnay.
Ixnay had some good songs but they didn't resonate with me as much as so many of the earlier songs had. "All I want" will always be a fun song, "I choose" is underrated, and "Go Away" was the start of them branching out and having success for it. (Their live version is pretty great, especially when they are joined by someone else as a duet). I liked a larger percentage of songs on Ixnay than Americana. But the songs I liked on Americana I liked much more than any on Ixnay. Then it just got to the point with Conspiracy and Splinter that I only really liked 2-3 songs at all. But the last two albums brought it back around in a big way. I really like most of the songs on "Days Go By". It was probably my most listened to album after the first three. "Rise and Fall" has some great ones too with "You're Gonna Go Far, Kid" as my favorite song that they have done since Americana. I made that Kyle Walker's entrance theme like immediately after hearing it 😁

Oh man, whenever I hear come out and play, I think of a place I worked at way back. The DJ would cut that song into his set to let us know he saw something starting on the dance floor we hadn’t noticed yet (“you gotta keep em separated!”). I was glad when he left, but I missed the song. It still gives me a small adrenaline pop when I hear it! 🙂

That was actually being played on the radio for a while here. It surprised me the first time the DJ introduced it because it's still pronounced like The Who and the music industry can be pretty litigious.
