FPW has given me a LOT of one-sided matches recently in terms of edits consistently winning the initial grapple.
As far as I know, both Jason Blackhart and Carlzilla has confirmed that nothing we do in edit mode has any possible effect on who wins grapples since it is entirely determined by CPU level and RNG.
But I have noticed a lot more squashes in general and some specific edits seem to be only be winning 10% of grapples for like 5 matches in a row for like 3 nights in a row. I know that one match can be a fluke but I'm seeing a trend here. It could just be a coincidence but is it possible that one of the recent patches changed things?
I just wanted to know if anyone else has been experiencing this recently. Again, this is just about who wins the initial grapple rather than squashes for other reasons (early big moves or parameter imbalances).
Also, ukemi isn't the issue since it's not like they are winning the grapple and then getting countered. They just aren't winning the initial grapple. I'm still seeing them counter after the opponent wins the initial grapple. But like 90% of an edit's offense is just ukemi reversals because they can't seem to win a grapple.

I have not noticed this, but I also haven't simmed any matches in a few days. Was there a patch more recently than that?

I know there was a patch a few days ago. That was around the time I noticed it too.
With FPR I was able to chalk up one-sided matches to just pure bad luck since I knew nothing was being changed in the game over the years. But with FPW, we've already seen SOOOO many engine mechanics intentionally and mistakenly changed by Spike, that I feel I can't just chalk this situation up purely to chance.
That's why I want to see if others have noticed it too.
One thing I have noticed is that it has occurred more between a medium sized wrestler and a giant sized wrestler. I know that wrestler size effects things like damage but I wonder if somehow "grapple winning" is now affected by it too. I was testing Tetsu Gushiken (a medium edit with junior fighting style) against Wang Gom-Bu (a giant wrestler with giant style) and Tetsu was routinely winning less than 25% of grapples. Perhaps its fighting style and not size.
When tested against other edits of the same size, Tetsu was doing fine. Two variants of him even placed 1 and 2 in a league last night. But then he still got squashed by Wang. This dynamic has been occurring for at least 4 days if not more. There was only 1 match in around 15-20 where Tetsu was getting close to 50% of grapples won against Wong. The only way he was able to be competitive was by reversing back grapples and happening to win those (then following up with ground attacks). He couldn't win a front grapple more than 1/4 (if not 1/5) of the time.
It could totally be bad luck of the draw here but the fact this kept happening against one edit of a bigger size and not others makes me think that something else is going on here. At the very least, I'd love to hear from others who may have recently simmed wrestlers of one size against wrestlers of other sizes.

I've been doing a ton of simming post patch the past couple of days, including testing out a Large edit (which has been mostly against medium opponents). I can't say I've noticed any obvious tomfoolery.
I'll keep a closer eye out for grapple wins, but as of now I haven't seen anything that would largely favor one over the other...

Thanks for your input! The more I hear about this, the better.
I have FPW running in the background now. Right before I saw your post, I noticed Tetsu putting away RYOMA in like 14 minutes. RYOMA is large size but he doesn't have Giant style like Wang does.
Just hoping the sims I got were bad luck and grapple winning hasn't been changed in a weird way.

yeah I simmed a half dozen matches last night with an eye on seeing who was winning grapples and didn't see any anomalies. Every match had both guys winning plenty of lock ups.
of course, none of them were Giant sized

Whoops, I probably should have mentioned the Giant-sized aspect in my original post 🤭😭
Hopefully the sims were enjoyable anyway!! 😁

Looking into this myself, not only have I not see any of the lopsided matches you're describing, I've actually seen some of the better matches I've seen in World over the last couple days. One match in particular was a 24-minute epic that got 100% and made me put a Signature on the move the edit finished with.

Any G or L sized edits misbehaving? I mean, besides Samael's usual rough-housing antics? 😁
Tetsu has had no problems against M or L sized edits. In fact, the two alternate versions that I have been testing the past few days have finished in the top 3 of Leagues I ran today. I just had a 12-wrestler league end with Geese as #1, Tetsu Variant A as #2, and Tetsu Variant B as #3. Somehow RYOMA was like #10.

That is a bit of a blind spot for me. My personal set of edits has all of 2 Large edits and no Giants. My Large dudes seem about normal, but I will do some more testing in it since I have the game open at the moment.
Edit: Further testing shows nothing unusual with my Large dudes. I think your game is just haunted by the ghost of Vince McMahon's boner for big guys.

LOL cue that gif of Vince falling off the chair with his eyes rolled back 😁 Thanks for testing and I'm glad it looks like it was just bad luck and not some new glitch.
