Having never played Final Fantasy VII, I was actually kind of looking forward to the remake but I'll be damned if I buy into some "episodic" BS. It's not DLC, it's the damn game itself. It's a shame that it will still be a best seller despite that ridiculousness. It's not really ridiculousness. The scale of the Final Fantasy VII storyline is quite substantial. If they waited to release the game all at once, it would be a two blu ray bundle like Red Dead Redemption 2 was and wouldn't be out until after the current gen life cycle was already over. There is a reason FFVII is critically and commercially credited as one of the greatest games of all time and deserving of this unorthodox release style.
Think of it like the movie IT. It has to be released in multiple parts because the story is so huge you couldn't fit it all into one movie without cutting the source material apart. The fact SquareEnix is actually expanding on the story and game world now that they don't have technological limitations is insane considering how much they already crammed in to 3 disks on the original PS1 version.
Here's a nice vid explaining the episodic releases in more detail

I don't do YouTube gamer vids for reasons that I'd rather not get into so please, just tell me this one thing:
If I buy part 1 of the FF VII Remake, will I have to pay for the other part(s) additionally?
In other words, will I need to pay $180+ for the complete experience?

Yes, long story short, the term episodic is a bit of the wrong word to use. Episodic is like the Tell Tale games that are divided up into chapters giving you little pieces of the game. Basically FFVII Remake will be two and possibly three entire full games spanning the same story like FFXIII which was a trilogy of games spanning one story. It's like buying a game and then buying it's sequels as they come out.

The Sinking City releases today. Might order it, the trailer looks intense, heavily inspired by HP Lovecraft.
I think this is from the same studio that did the Call of Cthulu game.

That trailer did it for me too š Love "doors from nowhere" š and the way they shot that. And the cause/effect narrative was cool as well. It also looks like this game has an interesting balance of exploring to fighting.

This looks cool as hell. IGN gave it a good review, Cthulhu mythos seem like a no brainer for game settings, yet there hasn't really been a slam dunk (Bill Lambeer Bot style!). There was an old XBOX game that I saw a bit of at a friend's place back in the day that looked cool, but that was a long ass time ago! Hopefully this scratches the itch, the trailer looks good!

Now I want "Bill Laimbeer Combat Basketball: Starring Cthulhu" šš¦
I feel like it's really hard nailing the tone of a Lovecraft story in a game due to finding the right type of genre to fit it. I think of "third person view" as the default for most adventure type stories. And it would definitely work for exploration, especially if we could get a look of fear on the character's face. I'd prefer that over 1st person for that reason. I actually want to see our character react for the right vibe to be hit.
But then the question of how much action vs. exploration. How much active control vs. being manipulated by other characters and the game itself? I love the "doorway" as a mechanic as it shows a world where we have no way to truly understand the rules and boundaries. I'd want some action but I wouldn't want to have control with that action. Maybe I can successfully shoot up a smaller beast but even that could have bad repercussions. This can't be a standard third person game where you build up to be unstoppable as the game goes on. If anything, even if your character acquires more items, there has to be some kind of "sanity" meter that drops.
The overall feeling should resemble a growing dread but in an experience unique to a game. Not just a giant boss that we can't beat with our weapons, but the feeling that something isn't right, isn't familiar, and is heading in a bad direction. I think a game can do that, and I'm really happy to see how that trailer worked. I just want to see something different than a third person action/adventure game that has weird shit in it. I want to somehow feel uncomfortable an hour after I have already put down the controller.
Maybe you start losing some 1P control over your characters movement as the game goes on. Maybe that loss of control over your character, your avatar in this world, reflects that sanity and control dropping. Heck, maybe a page from Metal Gear can be taken with having to use the controller, or interact with the game, in a surprising and different way. Are PS4 controllers equipped to accept blood oaths in addition to rumble? š

Damn, there's some really disturbing imagery in 1:00 of the first video. Really creepy vibe here and I love the dimensional portals and shifting realities. This has a ton of potential. Combat looks pretty tight too but the focus on the exploration and mysteries is really interesting to me.
I'm going to have to mark this down to get for the future...if it doesn't get me first š

is the new Far Cry any good? people jumped up and down saying Primal was a legit reskin of far cry 4 And is Farcry 5 a reskin of 4 cause i heard that was as well If youāve played Far Cry 3 or 4, you know what to expect from 5 (to be clear, Iām taking FC5, not New Dawn, havenāt tried Bew Dawn yet.). Maybe thatās what people are talking about when they say āreskinā. Same enemy types, grunts, rifle guys, snipers/rpg guys, bow guys, heavy armour flame thrower/LMG guys, MG turret trucks/boats, helicopters, etc, are all still there, same as 3 and 4. The system is reused, just in different locales, but the games always look amazing and are a pile of fun. Regardless of the reused general structure of the games, theyāre always fun. I miss scaling the radio towers in 3 and 4, it was always fun sneaking up a rickety, rusty ass old pile of crap, taking out guards and just figuring out how to get to the top without falling to your death! The Montana-ish wilderness in 5 is a lot of fun, the environment and animals are like what Iāve known all my life, so it's fun to see how Ubisoft put all of it together. The Seed family as a crazy group of fundamentalists/militia are great bad guys, each sibling controls a region of the totally accessible from the start of the game map, culminating in a showdown with each family member as you cause increasing levels of havoc in their respective regions. I really like the environment and the Seedās as antagonists in FC5, and the game never felt like a slog like FC 4 did towards the mid to end of the game. Also, FC5 includes something called Far Cry Arcade, a very cool if not odd collection of developer and user made maps reminiscent of a far cry themed Mario maker experience! The levels are odd mixes of elements from FC5 and its dlc where you must survive, complete objectives, of just make it through the level. You earn money to use in the main game to buy stuff, and all of the perks you unlock in the campaign are accessible in the arcade levels. The arcade is accessible from the start up menu, and also from arcade posters and cabinets in the campaign map. The arcade has some really creative, and at times whacked out shit to offer and adds a ton of replayability to the game (ubi does a Friday night arcade challenge every week as well.). I really like this mode, and it offers a pile of variety in an odd and very fun way! FC5 is great, and you can pick it up for a really decent price if you watch for sales. If youāre a fan, I would say go for it, in lots of ways I feel FC5 is the best of the last four games (3, 4, primal, and 5). You will feel comfortable and things will be familiar in FC5, but thereās enough variety and new stuff to make it feel fresh! Could you skip the game because itās a āreskinā of the previous ones? Probably. If youāre a fan of the series, the gameplay style, and are interested in a new story set in a cool new locale, you can play it and enjoy paying budget prices for a great game.
