Are the New Japsn games for N64/PlayStation/Dreamcast worth playing? I'm trying to fill in some gaps in my retro games collection and started wondering if the Toukon Road games for N64 were worth picking up. I have the AKI N634 games and Virtua Pro 2, and they mostly don't hold up for ne anymore. Never played the Toukon Road games, but I'm a huge NJ fan so I'm wanting to pick up a couple of the Shin Nippon games at least to add to the collections.
I'm also curious about the Toukon Retsuden series for PS1/Dreamcast. Would I be better grabbing a few of those and skipping Toukon Road?
Thanks.

In all honesty Touken Retsuden hasn’t aged well. VVPW 64 and 2 still stand the test for me though, so maybe we have different preferences.

Weren't those games the precursor to the smackdown games?

IIRC those games used the Rock/Paper/Scissor system, which is a little weird if you are used to standard grappling in wrestling games. I still think they play better than the Smackdown games. I think the main difference between them is roster. They're old japanese games so there isn't much in terms of gimmick matches there. I'm not sure how much you can do with the edit mode. I think they are worth checking out but maybe not bulk buy them all. Certain people really like the games: www.youtube.com/watch?v=Oov_5K-MRl4

I've played a bunch of the best Toukon Retsuden titles, the one I rate best and is still fun to play today (esp at it had a 60fps mode) is TR3 on PS1. The dreamcast one had limited movelists and too much repetition, the N64 version (Burning Spirits?) has the deepest moveset per wrestler but hasn't aged wll in terms of looks or performance, the PS1 version is a nice balance with deep movesets but still responsive and playable and looks ok.

I have one of the TR games for N64, can't remember if it's 1 or 2, and have played 2 & 3 on PS1 and 4 on DC.
Now that I've listed my credentials I'll basically back up tigermuppetcut's point that if you have to play any of them it should be 3 on PS1. I don't know how but 4 on DC was somehow worse despite being essentially the same damn thing. The Road games on N64 are pretty much the same as PS1 but a) slower b) slightly worse looks c) bad audio d) probably more expensive.
