TripleMania is August 3rd (Two weeks from this past Saturday). There's no televised (Twitch included) shows until then. The show will be broadcast on Twitch just as the previous events have been broadcast. I'm here to give my predictions to a relatively unpredictable show, but I'll do my best to make sense of most it. I'm going to be meme-y at some points while giving my predictions because the card is just stupid (It doesn't look it, but it is).
From the top (or the bottom in this case):
Mixed Tag Team Match for the Mixed Tag Team Titles:Nino Hamberguesa/Big Mami (C) vs Villano III Jr./Lady Maravilla vs Sammy Guevara/Scarlett Bordeaux vs Australian Suicide/Vanilla
The big story going on in this one is that there's a "love triangle" kind of thing going on between Nino, Mami, and Maravilla. Over the last year, Nino has been played the fool multiple times, often causing himself or his allies to lose their matches. Villano III Jr. is more-or-less a stooge or partner-in-crime and doesn't really have much of any place in the storyline overall. The other two teams are thrown together and aren't particularly relevant to the outcome at all. If anything, someone from those teams will be the one to take the fall.
Probable Winner: Nino/Mami (Retain) - This either ends or continues the feud.
Probable Winner: Villano/Maravilla - Nino fucks up again causing Mami to take the fall or allows Maravilla to pick up the victory otherwise.
Triple Threat Trios Match for the Trios Title:Los Jinetes del Aire - Golden Magic/Hijo Del Vikingo/Myzteziz Jr. vs El Nuevo Poder del Norte (PDN) - Mocha Cota Jr./Carta Brava Jr./Tito Santana (Not *that* one) vs Fresas Salvages - Black Mamba/Maximo/Pimpenella Escarlata
There's not a whole lot going on in this storyline either. At the start of the year, PDN dropped the titles to Los Jinetes - consisting then of Laredo Kid/Vikingo/Angelikal. Angelikal would eventually become Myzteziz Jr. - A pseudo-clone of Mistico. He was given a new mask by La Parka - This is essentially the role that La Parka plays in this storyline. He's kind of a mentor to the group, but not really. It's AAA, it's hard as shit for me to follow and if you don't follow it regularly like myself and a few others here have, it's going to be *more* confusing. But anyways - The bulk of the teamwork is Laredo Kid/Vikingo/Myzteziz Jr. and they defended the titles on and off again for most of the year. PDN has been gone for much of the year, leaving Los Jinetes to feud with Los OGTs (Averno, Chessman, and Superfly), Fresas Salvages, and random thrown together trios teams for much of the last year. It wasn't until recently that PDN has shown up again. I don't remember if one of them was injured or they just weren't on TV at all, but they hadn't been around at all until a few shows ago (A month or so ago). Golden Magic was brought into Los Jinetes to replace Laredo Kid in the stable (as La Parka believes in Golden Magic and he believes Laredo Kid can move on to greater things). We found out about this all literally this past Thursday night on the go-home show. AAA's booking is really really dumb. I don't watch it for the long-term storytelling, if you couldn't already tell.
Probable Winner: Poder Del Norte - Los Jinetes haven't really needed the titles, but we'll see how this goes. Fresas Salvages definitely don't need them as they're over as shit already and them having the titles won't make much of a difference. However, Fresas Salvages might mean we get a feud with Los Mercenarios, but that's kind of conflicting because of Rey Escorpion's role as of late, which I'll get to later on in the card.
Copa TripleMania feat. Too Many Goddamn Dudes to List. This is a Royal Rumble-style Gauntlet/Battle Royal in the vein of WWE's Andre Battle Royal. I'm not going to really go into the participants, but I'm going to predict a win from either Aero Star, Rey Escorpion, or Killer Kross.
Probable Winner: Aero Star - Doesn't really need it, but may get a huge Babyface pop because he's AAA's equivalent to Shane McMahon (in the sense that he's an adrenaline junkie and does all the stupid jump-off-anything shit).
Probable Winner: Killer Kross - Killer Kross has been on a monster of a tear in AAA for the last two years. Claims he's not been defeated one-on-one since showing up. There's a pretty good chance he wins if he's a participant.
Probable Winner: Rey Escorpion - Escorpion has been on-and-off-and-on-again feuding with Psycho Clown for the last two or three years. He's the previous Rey de Reyes (basically the equivalent to WWE's King of the Ring). He's the de facto leader of Los Mercenarios (the top rudo stable in AAA) ever since El Hijo del Fantasma left the company earlier this year. An Escorpion win here could possibly mean we're (finally) getting Psycho Clown/Escorpion at next year's TripleMania (I want this so bad you have no frickin' idea). This bit also has to do with the Psycho Clown match later further up the card.
Tables, Ladders, and Chairs Match for the Women's Title:Lady Shani vs Taya vs Tessa Blanchard vs Faby Apache vs Keyra (C) vs Chik Tormenta vs La Hiedra
Not really sure what to say here beyond AAA being able to run three+ Women's feuds all at once while WWE can barely execute one. Keyra won the title in a non-PPV match against Lady Shani, and a couple of others that I can't remember off-hand right now. Lady Shani dropping the title seems really really random, and Keyra recently suffered some kind of leg injury, but should be okay to defend the title come August 3rd. Taya (Valkyrie) and Tessa Blanchard are Impact talent, so I'm doubtful they'll win and they're just bodies to participate in the match.
Probable Winner: Keyra - Retains title. If she participates in the match; Which I assume she will. I can't say for certain if she'll be a transitional champion (and AAA doesn't really care for it's titles to begin with), but if she drops it, it'll probably go to either Lady Shani or Faby Apache as I don't think the other women are ready for it or don't really need it. Taya already holds a few titles herself. Tessa hasn't been around long (maybe a couple of months, tops).
Probable Winner: Lady Shani - Regains the title. Could open up feuds with the rest of the roster. She and Faby Apache have been fighting on and off for several years. Shani is friends with Taya personally and issued a challenge against her a few months back. There have also been teases of a feud between her and La Hiedra, as well.
Probable Winner: Faby Apache - Dunno what kind of feuds she would get into beyond feuding with Shani again. She's also been feuding much of the year with Hijo del Tirantes (the rudo referee). Hijo del Tirantes is a trained wrestler and performs on the local indy scene in Mexico. He's not very good, but he does his job well enough to put on a decent match. Knowing AAA, they'll crack open a new feud from scratch if they want to.
Any one of these seven ladies could walk away as the champion as TripleMania is the end of the last year and a fresh start to the next year. Whatever is set up at TripleMania will span most of the coming year. Maybe we'll see some alignment changes - Lady Shani has been Babyface for nearly two years - She's speaking as a force for good on Twitter and Instagram, so maybe she won't flip, but we'll see. Taya and Faby are also Babyfaces. The rest, as far as I can remember, are Heel.
Six Man Tag Team Match/Lucha Especial:Psycho Clown, Cody Rhodes, and Cain Velasquez vs Texano Jr., Taurus, and Lucha Sorpresa (lit. "Surprise Fighter")
This is a special attraction match. It includes Cody Rhodes as a representative from AEW and Cain Velasquez as a celebrity participant. I have no idea what kind of match Cain Velasquez will be able to put on, but he's at least trained in MMA, so it shouldn't be all bad. However: AAA is a fast-paced environment, so I'm a little bit worried. Also, it's a violent environment and having Los Mercenarios involved is almost guaranteed to make this a violent, if not bloody, brawl. The "Luchador Sorpresa" is likely going to be either Alberto El Patron (Konnan spilled the beans a little and said it would be another wrestler with "MMA Experience"), The joke entrant could be Tito Ortiz because "lol, why not?", Killer Kross is another possibility as he has experience in Pankration (a Greek form of martial arts). We could also get a "swerve" entrant and it ends up being Rey Escorpion anyways and Konnan was baiting us all along.
Psycho Clown has been feuding with Los Mercenarios for a few years, depending on which version you want to consider. El Hijo del Fantasma and La Mascara recently left AAA for other opportunities, which left Rey Escorpion and Texano Jr. as the only group members left. El Samoan hasn't been on programming in months, so he's likely done with the company as well. With those three out of the picture, Taurus and La Hiedra joined the group and the mercenaries are stronger than ever before. Taurus has been booked as an absolute beast this year and he hasn't taken many losses in Singles competition. He's a pretty big deal. Escorpion is the former Rey de Reyes and a former Tag Team Champion with Texano Jr. - They were champions for quite some time, and dominant too.
Anyways - The real "feud" here is Psycho Clown vs Rey Escorpion. Rey Escorpion *really* wants Psycho Clown's mask and it would be absolute *insanity* if he won his mask. Psycho Clown has been built as the mega-over face of the company and it would be absolutely destructive should he lose his mask. However, that's not happening this year, so I'm not really sure why this match is happening. It might develop the feud further. I have no idea what Cody and Cain are doing here. I have no idea why Cody is Babyface and aligning himself with Psycho Clown. This is a kind of pointless match, but what are you gonna do when AAA lets its fans book the card? - Yes, they literally let the Twitch fans book this card. The only announced matches on this card were this match and the main event, which I'll be getting to soon.
Probable Winner: Team Psycho Clown. The Babyfaces go over. That's all I've really got here.
AAA vs AEW Six Man Tag Team Match:The Lucha Bros (Fenix and Pentagon Jr.) and Laredo Kid vs The Elite (The Young Bucks and Kenny Omega)
This is a rematch from Double or Nothing. I don't care about this match whatsoever. The only good thing that could come from it is Los Mercenarios challenging the Lucha Bros for a Tag Team title match.
Probable Winner: The Elite because LOL.
The Elite will likely win this again because... Memes. I can't. Sorry. It sucks. It doesn't need to happen. I hate it. I can't be impartial. I'm not looking forward to this at all.
Laredo Kid is the *only* guy in this match under contract with AAA. Everyone else is an AEW guy. It does next to nothing for AAA as a company. This is the... fifth or sixth time that the Lucha Bros and Young Bucks have been in the same match with each other since the AAA partnership was announced. The Lucha Bros are the AAA Tag Team champions (for reasons) and the only way this is made interesting even in the slightest is if the Mercenarios get involved. The crowd is almost guaranteed to be wiped out by now and this match shouldn't be as close to the top of the card as it is because we've got the big whammy of a match for last.
THE MAIN EVENT - Hair vs Mask Match: Dr. Wagner Jr. vs Blue Demon Jr.
Dr. Wagner Jr. feuded throughout 2017 with Psycho Clown, ultimately losing his mask at TripleMania 25. El Hijo del Fantasma lost his mask the following year to L.A. Park (The "real" Parka) at TripleMania 26.
After that match ended, Dr. Wagner Jr. challenged L.A. Park to a Hair vs Mask match at TripleMania 27 (This year's TripleMania event). L.A. Park essentially said "LOL, no" and went back to working with CMLL. This pushed for Dr. Wagner Jr. to challenge Blue Demon Jr. at this year's event. Blue Demon Jr. accepted the match. The two have feuded since last TripleMania with Blue Demon Jr. being the rudo and Dr. Wagner Jr. being the babyface. They were in multi-man matches against one another all year and there wasn't a whole lot of storyline development outside of "I want your mask; Come and get it" type stuff. Blue Demon Jr. is very much aligned with Los Mercenarios as the rudo. Dr. Wagner Jr. is aligned with other major Babyfaces (Psycho Clown, Pagano, and a small handful of others). I don't believe either will have interference, but you never know.
This match is going to be a bloody, disgusting brawl. Blue Demon Jr. is akin to the "Blood for the Blood God" trope and Dr. Wagner Jr. is almost guaranteed to bleed within the first few minutes of the match beginning. Don't expect much of any wrestling to be happening. There isn't much "actual" wrestling to be had at the top of AAA's card.
Probable Winner: Blue Demon Jr.
They've been trading wins back and forth all year and Dr. Wagner Jr. won their go-home match clean as a whistle on a Wagner Driver with no dirty tactics to be had by either side. This practically guarantees that Blue Demon Jr. keeps his mask. The feud hasn't been worth it for him to lose it anyways. Dr. Wagner Jr. doesn't really need the win either, but it's about prestige, so anything can happen. Dr. Wagner Jr. has a glorious mane of hair now, which also tells me that he's not winning the match. Either way, Dr. Wagner Jr. is dedicating the match to his fallen brother, Silver King. It's going to be a worthwhile spectacle regardless of the outcome. I'd be *shocked* if Dr. Wagner Jr. wins this match though. I'm sounding like a broken record, but this should be worth waiting all night for it. Hopefully the crowd is hot for it because the match before this will probably have killed them.
There are no other title matches booked on this card. Fenix has been Megacampeon for a full year almost and he hasn't defended the title once. This really is how little AAA cares about it's title picture. It's kind of annoying, honestly. Ironically enough, they care more about their Women's Title and the Trios Title more than the rest. Hopefully we'll get something good from all this.
