I'll go ahead and add Shazam! to the (still way too short) list of DC Universe films that don't suck at all.
I was pleasantly surprised by it.
Who knew that "Chuck" would make such a good Captain Marvel?
Yeah, I fucking said it!

Not a movie per se, but Hamilton on Disney Plus is a must see for anyone that has not seen the show. Just incredible storytelling on one of the most prominent figures in the early stages of the United States.

Finally got around to Dolomite is my Name on Netflix last night, pretty cool look at the story of a very tenacious Rudy Ray Moore and his refusal to be told his brand of comedy was unwanted. I have no idea how accurate or how much of the story was embellished, but come on, it’s Rudy Ray Moore’s material, and the KING, Eddie Murphy playing the iconic Dolomite, what more could you ask for?! I really enjoyed this one, I discovered Moore’s comedy ages ago (my grandfather had a record player in the basement, I used to plug it in and mess around with it, then I found a stash of comedy albums. My grandfather was an old farmer, so finding RRM albums in his collection makes the whole thing even more preposterous!), so it’s cool to see his life and work get some main stream attention, and for it to be done respectfully but in a humorous way. Fun stuff, check it out!

For anyone that missed it (I think a lot did), Get on Up, the James Brown bio movie starring Chadwick Boseman, was really good. He killed it as the godfather of soul, and as a long time fan of JB’s music, this was a must see for me (and the first time I saw Boseman in a movie, I remember thinking where has this guy been hiding, he’s great!). Check it out when you’re done rewatching Black Panther and stuff If you’re doing tribute viewings and all that, you might enjoy it.

The Peanut Butter Falcon - An overzealous pro wrestling fan with Down's Syndrome escapes his state run care facility and goes on a batshit road trip with Shia LaBeouf to find a wrestling school run by his babyface hero 'Salt Water Redneck', now a retired old bum living in a tiny backwoods trailer park. Probably the most wholesome thing I've watched in years, it made me laugh out loud on several occasions, which is more than I can say for any comedy since the turn of the millennium. The final scene with Shia in the back of the car was beyond stupid, but everything up until that point was fun and enjoyable stuff.
In the grand tapestry that is the history of Professional Wrestling, Jake The Snake Roberts' greatest contribution is unquestionably the innovation/accidental invention of the DDT. Getting press slammed like 10 feet out of the ring over the top rope by a kid with Down's Syndrome is a pretty close second in my book. At the risk of damaging my reputation as a cantankerous old crank, this was actually pretty heartwarming stuff without being aggressively sappy. 6.5/10

Teaser for Resident Evil Infinite Darkness, the fourth installment in the Resident Evil CGI series.
EDIT: I should correct that. It looks like it's a planned series and not a stand alone film like the others.

I’m not a huge sports fan, I love watching GLORY kickboxing (but it looks as though it’s a corona virus victim...), World Cup football, some rugby when I can find it, but that’s about it. Out of all of the North American major league sports, I find baseball the hardest to understand the appeal of. I want to get it, but I can’t. I’ve even been to a Phillies game (vs Cubs), I had more fun watching the fans, they were ravenous for the stuff, it was fun.
That said, stuff like this documentary that I watched brings the interest in the game into focus. I know the name Reggie Jackson, he was huge and transcended the game itself, so when I saw The Making of Mr October come on (narrated by O’Shea Jackson!), I was interested. This is a great documentary on a pretty bad ass character, pretty cool insight into a game I know little about, too. I know there are fans here, so this might be a good one to check out!

Over the years, I've seen Bloodsport on TV dozens of times and have frequently watched a scene here and there. I think I've seen the movie in its entirety maybe 3 times. That said, it still remains something of a guilty pleasure since quite frankly, it's one of the cheesiest action movies of its day (and that's no small feat) but the action itself is entertaining enough to make up for the horrible writing and acting. Forest Whitaker came a hell of a long way from that nonsense lol. For all of his atrocious acting throughout the movie (I think it might have actually been his first lead, don't quote me), Jean-Claude Van Damme's action scenes did stand out as they highlighted his now trademark flexibility, something that physically set him apart from other super jacked 80s action stars.

Bloodsport, Kickboxer 1, and Best of the Best are three martial arts movies from the 90's that I won't turn off if I'm lucky enough to catch on TV. I'll consider Kickboxer 2 and Best of the Best 2 as well but they are nowhere as good as the originals and their presentation and storylines just feels like artificially jazzed up.

^Best of the Best is probably my favorite "tournament" martial arts movie, as it actually has a great story to go along with the epic action. Somehow, I don't think I've ever seen Kickboxer in its entirety, just bits here and there. Just seems weird since I like those kind of flicks and it was on all the time when I was a kid. *shrug* So, wondering who some of the nameless dudes were in Bloodsport (which apparently has sequals.....WHY DOES IT HAVE SEQUELS?) I stumbled across this rather amusing read. www.lasertimepodcast.com/2015/06/06/every-fighter-in-bloodsport-ranked-from-lamest-to-coolest/Didn't get anything about the actors playing them (what I was really after) but I learned the names of a couple of more guys who got multiple fights. I still think the monkey-fu dude is one of the most distinctive fighters from the genre.

Have you ever seen the sequel? It's really weird but still kind of fun. I really recommend checking out Kickboxer. As much as I like Best of the Best, I actually prefer Kickboxer. Although it's more formulaic, there's just something special about it. Also, as fierce as Chong Li is from Bloodsport, I still think Tong Po is scarier. Also, you get the best JCVD dancing: It's like he's applauding himself for being so smooth So, wondering who some of the nameless dudes were in Bloodsport (which apparently has sequals.....WHY DOES IT HAVE SEQUELS?) Kickboxer has like 5 sequels too - and the most recent one has f'n Batista playing Tong Po! I saw it too. I don't remember hating it cause it was pretty entertaining in a "bad movie" kind of way. But it's really weird.

And obligatory "They told you I was in a car accident... ...BRAKKUS WAS THE CAR!"
TIL there's a 3 and 4 which was basically the guy playing Tommy still continuing on. Actually come to think of it I may have seen the third one.

Wow, I had no idea they made two more sequels! 😁 Brakkus was like a Street Fighter or Mortal Kombat character and the entire movie just felt so different than the team's competition with Dae Hon and his team in Best of the Best 1. Still, 2 felt intriguing in a weird way.

I have a couple of Christmas movies I like to check out every year, just like everyone else, two in particular, although there are others I really enjoy as well. My two go tos this time of year are the 1951 black and white film Scrooge, and Bad Santa.
I get serious heat for liking bad Santa, but in my opinion, it’s a perfect Christmas movie, and easily my favourite thing Billy Bob has been in (although Ice Harvest with John Cusack and Billy Bob was pretty good, too). What’s there not to like about a drunk, dirtbag, recidivist safecracker finding redemption and raison d'être by getting to know an innocent child who shows him unconditional love? John Ritter and Bernie Mac were perfect in this one as well, it’s so good to see them at their best, Mac playing a sleazy mall security director and Ritter as a squeamish, pushover mall manager. I could watch this film over and over, laugh just as hard every time, and find things to enjoy about it a little more with each viewing! I love dark comedies and this one is a favourite of mine I will continue to go back to!
Alistair Sim CRUSHED the roll of Ebeneezer Scrooge in this version of Dickens’ classic Christmas tale. I remember this being on TV every year as far back as I can recall, and every year I’d watch it. I know the story is considered corny, but screw it, there’s a good, simple message there EVERYONE can benefit from, BE A GOOD HUMAN. Sim did a lot of comedy, it shows in his great delivery of the story’s classic lines, and I can’t help but hear him when I read this book every year (I have for a very long time now), but he’s able to deliver serious material just as capably, and that range is what I love about his performance and this version of the story in general. Great stuff, avoid the colourized version if possible, but even that is okay!
