Fire Pro-Wrestling 3 Legend Bout Winning Strategy SpecialPublisher: Keibunsha Year: 1992 Pages: 79 Welcome back to another Fire Pro scan project! The next guidebook revolves around Fire Pro-Wrestling 3 Legend Bout, which was released on the Japanese PC Engine console back in 1992.
This time around, the exclusive interview doesn't involve members of the HUMAN Corporation staff or notable Wrestlers, but Japanese
electronica group Denki Groove. Dust cover. The inside of the dust cover includes other publications by Keibunsha, including: the Super Fire Pro-Wrestling guidebook (which I just posted), Fire Pro-Wrestling Retsuden (which I just received), and a real-life guide on Submission techniques.
Inner cover.
Page 01: the table of contents. Page 2 serves as the introduction to Legend Bout, while page 3 showcases the new Wrestlers added to the game. The new Wrestlers featured are: Dynamite Kid, Akira Taue, Tatsumi Fujinami,
Kazuo Yamazaki, Nobuhiko Takada, Toshiaki Kawada,
Atsushi Onita, Steve Williams, Terry Gordy, Hiroshi Hase and Masahiro Chono. The bottom of page 3 includes screenshots of two different endings in the game's World Championship mode. Page 4: controller input and mode selection inputs. Page 5: summary of Exhibition Match mode. Page 6: summaries of: World Championship and Open League modes. Page 7: summaries of: Elimination Match and Wrestler Edit modes. It should be noted that Legend Bout was the very first Wrestling game to feature a create-a-wrestler mode. An add-on that would become a series staple in the decades to follow. Page 8: new technique data coverage, featuring the following moves: Rear Naked Choke, Cobra Twist
Dragon Sleeper, Flying Body Attack (Crossbody)Page 9: new techniques continued: Neck Hanging Tree, Bronco Buster
Tombstone Piledriver & Waterwheel Drop
On page 9, we also get our look at the first Wrestlers illustration with newcomer Hiro Date (Hiroshi Hase) performing the Northern Lights Suplex on Mitsuhide Hikawa (Mitsuharu Misawa).

Pages 10 - 11: new techniques section continues. Page 10 features illustrations of Masahiro Kono (Masahiro Chono) applying a Kenka Kick to Ax Mogan (Hulk Hogan). Page 11 includes drawings of Fighter Yamato (Tatsumi Fujinami) executing his patented Dragon Sleeper on Thunder Ryu (Genichiro Tenryu). Pages 12 - 13: new techniques section continued. Page 12: Snap Brainbuster, Headlock Punch. Dragon Suplex, Romero Chin Lock (Romero Special)
Ura Nage
Page 13: Diving Headbutt Stepover Facelock, Snap Backdrop
Powerslam, Kenka Kick
Page 14: the final page of the new techniques section. This batch of techniques are as followed: Thunder Fire Powerbomb
Northern Lights Suplex, German Suplex Whip
Facebuster, Arm Bomber (Chokeslam)Page 15: the title page for the Wrestler data section. As I've said several times in the past, the Wrestler illustrations found in these old guidebooks were always a big selling point for me. In all their cartoonish charm, these drawings capture the Wrestlers they are based on quite accurately, all the while staying true to the system's graphics.
A good example of this is The Great Muta (on page 17). who is depicted wearing tights with boots. Track pants wouldn't be added as a clothing option for Wrestlers for another three years with Super Fire Pro-Wrestling X on the Super Famicom. Page 16: Victory Musashi (Antonio Inoki) performs an Enzuigiri on Thunder Ryu (Genichiro Tenryu) Page 17: Fighter Yamaoto (Tatsumi Fujinami) unleashes a Dragon Suplex on Blade Musha (The Great Muta). Pages 18 - 19: Tommy Bomber (Jumbo Tsuruta) performs a Backdrop on Masahiro Kono (Masahiro Chono) & Akira Ogami (Akira Taue) applying a Chokeslam to Akira Saeba (Akira Maeda). Pages 20 - 21: Akira Saeba (Akira Maeda) performs a Captured Suplex on B.G. Bull (Bruiser Brody) & Great Panther (Tiger Mask) unfolds a Tiger Suplex on Super Kaiser (Jushin Liger). Pages 22 - 23: Star Bison (Stan Hansen) unloads a Western Lariat on Akira Saeba (Akira Maeda) & B.G. Bull (Bruiser Brody) descends with a Leg Drop on (who I am guessing is) Victory Musashi (Antonio Inoki). Pages 24 - 25: Super Kaiser (Jushin Liger) performs a Shooting Star Press on The Eliminator (The Destroyer), while Dynamic Billy (Dynamite Kid) drops with a Diving Headbutt on Tommy Bomber (Jumbo Tsuruta). Personally, I'm not the biggest fan of the background art style. The scratchy look and choice of blue gives the impression that the Fire Pro cast decided to duke it out inside a skating rink.

Pages 32 - 33: Axe Morgan (Hulk Hogan) performing an Axe Bomber on Victory Musashi (Antonio Inoki) & Thunder Ryu (Genichiro Tenryu) applying a Powerbomb to Victory Musashi (Antonio Inoki). Pages 34 - 35: Blade Musha (The Great Muta) delivers a moonsault to Fighter Yamato (Tatsumi Fujinami), while Mad Tiger (Tiger Jeet Singh) unleashes a weapon attack on Kazuki Yamamoto (Kazuo Yamazaki). Pages 36 - 37: Masahiro Kono (Masahiro Chono) locks up an S.T.F. on Carlos Krauzer (Karl Gotch), while Hiroshi Date (Hiroshi Hase) demonstrates a Northern Lights Suplex on Super kaiser (Jushin Thunder Liger). Pages 38 - 39: Teddy Gory (Terry Gordy) delivers a Powerbomb to Katsushi Okita (Atsushi Onita), while Steel James (Steve Williams) drops a Powerslam on Makoto Higaki (Masakatsu Funaki). Pages 40 - 41: Makoto Higaki (Masakatsu Funaki) wields the power of a shotei rush on Steel James (Steve Williams) & Jo Kajiwara (Yoshiaki Fujiwara) applies an Achilles Tendon Lock on Great Panther (Tiger Mask). Like several matchups in this guidebook, the Fujiwara vs Tiger Mask illustration is a nod to the roots of the UWF; Japan's pioneering shoot-style promotion, which paved the way for the MMA boom of the early 1990's.

Legend Bout was the first Fire Pro title where Vader received his modern ring mask. As an added foot note, Legend Bout would also be the Fire Pro debut of Atsushi Onita.
Pages 42 - 43: Hitman Saber (Big Van Vader) performs a Body Attack on Toshiie Kazama (Toshiaki Kawada), while Katsushi Okita (Atsushi Onita) drops a Thunder Fire Powerbomb on Shinya Hatamoto (Shinya Hashimoto). The next four pages focus on the hidden boss Wrestlers. Pages 44 - 45: The Eliminator (The Destroyer) applies a Figure Four on Rikiozan (Rikidozan) & Rikiozan (Rikidozan) strikes down Victory Musashi (Antonio Inoki) with a Kesa Kiri chop. Pages 46 - 47: R.J. Phase (Lou Thesz) performs a Belly To Belly on Hitman Saber (Big Van Vader), while Carlos Krauzer (Karl Gotch) dishes out a German Suplex on Steel James (Steve Williams). Now that we've covered all of the Wrestler illustrations, let's take a look at the rest of the Legend Bout guidebook: Page 48 mentions a contest where players could submit their Legend Bout create-a-wrestler formulas directly to HUMAN! Each applicant could only send in one Wrestler, before the deadline of December 20th, 1992. The created Wrestlers would be tested in a simulated CPU vs CPU matchup to determine the top 3 "rookies". As a smart move on Keibunsha's part, the application form was found in the instruction manual of Legend Bout; meaning applicants had to purchase the game itself in order to enter the contest. As to knowledge, many of the formulas were published in Fire Pro's first-ever edit guidebook for Legend Bout, which was released between 1992 - 1993. I distinctly remember one of the Final Bout guidebooks I posted here mentioned the guidebook being
released.
Page 49 is the 'secrets to victory' title page, which encompasses pro-level gameplay strategies, and edit mode techniques to create the best
Wrestlers.

We're on the home stretch, with only a handful of pages remaining: Page 70: concludes the Wrestler movesets section, includes a summary on move damage. Page 71 lists the secret front and back grapples for every Wrestler. Page 72: uncovers hidden tricks. Inputting the password FPRO3 SENSE I unlocks the four hidden boss characters. Page 72 also mentions that submission holds can be used to weaken different body parts. For example, applying a leg submission on a Wrestler who excels at kicking will weaken their kicks. Page 72 further details this with submission move data pertaining to the subject.
Page 73: explains countering ratios, big moves, and the probability of pulling off counters with low health, among other situations. Specific moves and Wrestler sizes relating to countering are presented here.

Page 74: gameplay secrets continue. The top portion of page 74 explains the ratio of blood techniques. Biting has a 1 in 4 chance of making the opponent bleed, while weapon attacks have a higher ratio of 1 in 8. The next portion of page 74 mentions damage recovery and reversal ratios, along with the password FPRO3WOMAN, which unlocks the female referee. Page 75: the beginning of the exclusive interview with Pierre from Japanese Electronica group DENKI GROOVE. Pages 76 - 77: the Denki Groove interview continues. Page 77 includes this issue's 'present'. Readers could win 1 of 3 signed shikishi boards that were autographed by Pierre.
Page 77 includes a blurb from noted HUMAN staff member Daisuke Asako, who recalls fond memories of playing Wrestling games on
Nintendo's Famicom disk system, not owning a PC himself, but also praising Legend Bout for having more tricks and Wrestlers to choose from than the Super Famicom ports at the time (which was true - as Super Fire Pro-Wrestling 2 was the most-recent Fire Pro title at the time with about 20 Wrestlers, and no Edit mode). Pages 78 - 79: the final part of the Denki Groove interview. Book credits and address for the Denki Groove autograph giveaway. Inner cover backside. Also included is the original obi strip, which was used to seal the book upon it's release. Well, that wraps up another guidebook. Legend Bout was truly a revolutionary Wrestling title for it's time. As the first Wrestling game to feature a create-a-wrestler mode, Legend Bout set the benchmark for future titles to follow. Topped with a refined grapple system, early instances of CPU Logic, and a 20+ Wrestler roster, Legend Bout was the most comprehensive Wrasslin' title released up to that point, bar none.

Thanks for reading!

Congratulations on another scan and thank you. I wonder who drew the cover of this book? The image is just fantastic. The credit page of the guidebook states that the 'cover design' was created by Rikio Harada (原田力男) for UDinc. I agree, the cover is probably the best in the series, right alongside Final Bout's graphic.
