Anyone else playing this one?
Last WWE game I played was 2K16, so this seems like a huge upgrade to me. The AI is actually pretty good and consistently gives some quality sims with the right slider settings. Plus it actually plays way smoother than previous games in the 2K series. Universe is the same as it's always been, the GM mode is actually really fun (and apparently got a huge update today, adding tag titles and increasing card sizes), the MyRISE career mode has been OK so far, and the Rey Mysterio showcase was great stuff.
The roster is really solid, and if you add in the amazing stuff the community creations brings to the game, and I'll be a busy boy for a while.
The only real criticism I can level at it is that a bunch of the top rope moves and springboard moves are pretty janky and sometimes don't connect when they should or connect at weird angles....but apparently this was also patched today, I just haven't got a chance to try things out yet.
All that being said I'm struggling with a couple of things....
1) putting people thru the announce table. Can't figure this one out. The load screen tip says "Press R2 + X near the announce table" but that just hits my regular finisher on the floor, next to the table. I can't seem to lean the opponent against the table like in previous games. Regular tables are no problem, but the announce table works differently.
2) Dives from the ladder. During ladder/TLC matches I can climb the ladder and grab the case, or fight at the top with another wrestler, but I can't figure out how to get to the very top rung so I can do a diving move off the top. I've seen the AI do it, but when I try my guy won't climb further than required to grab the case. He just stops and there's no button prompt to climb higher.

I'll be interested in a WWE game when the amount of Front Grapple moves doesn't dwarf a full move-set of a Fire Pro edit.
For real though - If I wanted to *play* a wrestling game, I'd probably pick it up. I haven't had much desire to play these games in many years. I tried with 2K19, but the itch wasn't scratched, and while 2K22 is a much better game than 2K20 is, that's a very low bar to clear. I might grab it if it's like 20 bucks on sale, like I did with 2K19.
Been pretty wishy-washy with wrestling games as a whole lately.

I kinda like the combo system where weaker strikes chain into a tree of possible grapple moves, but your standard front and rear grapples are still there, you can easily play and win matches without using the combos at all....but I see your point. It can take a very long time to create a full moveset for simming purposes. Hell, there are so many moves available as finishers and specials you could spend hours just scrolling the previews.
I'm sure you'll be able to get this game for cheap in a few months.

I'm definitely curious how it plays. I've heard some pretty good things so far.
I wouldn't expect to use edit mode since I know how that goes. FPW takes long enough for me to create edits so I have no desire to spend hours for a moveset that I wouldn't be able to do logic for...and if I was able to do logic for it, it would take me days!! (flashbacks of KOC2)
But I think the main drawback is that the WWE roster just kinda doesn't do it for me aside from a few people. I could see picking the game up for cheap in the future though just to give the engine a try.
I mean, even when I was like 24/7 into Fire Pro, I still enjoyed playing "Smackdown: HCTP" a LOT.

I hear you on the roster geese. I haven't watched WWE in years so half of them are guys I have literally never heard of lolol...but the guys who I do know look really good. I'm currently running a Universe mode with 4 shows, about 32-40 wrestlers per show. Only about 1/3 of those (like 40ish wrestlers) are from the in game roster. Community Creations are really impressive though.

It's a very fun game. Fun to play and one of the better simmed games from the series in some time (it's not it's hat like Fire Pro so it doesn't compare but for a game that's "supposed" to be played, the sim offering isn't bad is what I'm saying). The new combo system sounded like an awful idea on paper but in execution, it makes complete sense and if you don't want to use it, you can just use the standing grapples which are akin to how the previous games were (albeit, you have to lock up to initiate them here). The biggest stylistic difference is that because of the combo system, the focus is more on striking and building up to grapples, kind of like actual WWE matches. I feel that it's a change that makes sense for recreating the product but it's something that's actually fun to control because each string of strikes can be comboed into a grappling animation OR a bigger strike animation (like an axe kick or a standing lariat). Again, you don't HAVE to play that way but I don't see the point in limiting yourself (there are at least a dozen different grapple moves that can be assigned from the combos, as an example). The extra button for initiating grapples and springboards isn't for everyone but I was pretty used to it by the end of the first day. The only notable casualty that comes to mind is that they removed the position where the opponent's head sticks out beneath the ropes, which is where the Undertaker's guillotine leg drop and Roman Reigns' Drive By kick were performed. It's not a HUGE loss since there weren't that many options anyway but it's still annoying that it was removed. I believe every other move position from 2K20 is in though. As for CAWS I'm a bit miffed by some of the decisions made for the suite (namely dramatically curtailed body morphing and no advanced entrance creation) but you can still get some amazing, authentic looking CAWs regardless. They really made an effort to clean up the hair for CAWs (and the default roster, for that matter) so long hair actually doesn't look terrible for once. Still a bit "off" but something that they obviously worked on, with mostly positive results. While the default CAW skin texture is still worse than the default roster's, I do like how the bruising on it is pretty much exactly how it is on the default roster's. Get your chest worked over by a Flair? Well, your CAW will have the welts to show it. I think they've tried it before but I don't recall ever noticing at as much as this year. Also, the variable bleeding is a much welcome, overdue inclusion. Still male only but that will never change for WWE licensed games I imagine. I'll admit, I'm not a huge fan of card/tower modes but the one here is something that I'd be willing to play if I actually had the time for it. Not a fan of the 4 on 4 match mode but everything else is mostly reasonable. I DO NOT like that certain throwback models of wrestlers are allegedly only available to be used in that mode and you have to make decent headway into the mode to see them at that. I just don't find any joy in chasing a carrot that should have been available to me from the outset. Again, that last bit is based on hearsay because I've played maybe 20ish matches in it since launch day.
I have created one male and one female MySuperstar but haven't "completed" anything with them outside of the performance center stuff. It's fun and engaging enough but again, limited time; I'm more into making CAWs than playing when I DO get time, so sue me xD.

I was thinking about watching WWE Backlash on Sunday night, but instead I fired up Universe mode and skipped ahead to the next PPV to see what the card offered me.
It was SummerSlam, and the main event was a triple threat between Kenta Kobashi, Mitsuharu Misawa and Toshiaki Kawada. The undercard was a banger, including CM Punk vs Kenny Omega, The Dudleys vs The Hardys for the tag titles, Rey Mysterio vs RVD and Abdullah the Butcher vs Bruiser Brody.
Guess which show I decided to watch lol

I still regret buying it. I played a bunch of matches in MyRise, crap got repetitive real quick. At first I was kinda stoked about Hulk Hogan, but it wasn't the 80s Hogan I grew up cheering, it was the Hollywood Hogan face character from 2002. meh.

Nice, Hana I'll check em out.
Also, I've uploaded a version of TheDenizen to community Creations. Hashtag "denizen" and it should pop up.
Attires are all new, the moveset is a combination of Ichiro Katagiri and Newfie George :P

I thought 22 sucked, to play, just endless reversals.

I go back once in a while...still trying to finish Shoecase...MyRise still on a lame repeat cycle.
One moment made me laugh though...my character was fighting Matt Riddle in a Backstage Brawl...went up to the highest level...threw him off in what would have killed someone in real life...

I thought 22 sucked, to play, just endless reversals. That and online players spamming without end. Interacting with players online pretty much killed my desire to play console games during the PS3 era. The trash talking, rage quitting, spamming ...it just wasn't for me. Don't think I'd last much longer in this day and age with the current WWE product.
