While not the preferred choice for many 16-bit Wrestling fans, SFPWS offered bigger sprites, improved BGM, new Wrestlers,
voice clips and even a tutorial mode with Ittetsu Wakamoto (Kotetsu Yamamoto).

Today, I'll share all of the character endings, unlockables and Easter eggs from the game.

Victory Musashi (Antonio Inoki) and Great Shiba (Giant Baba).

The ending of the first playthrough where the player(s) are confronted by Tiger Jeet Singh.

The second ending features the player(s) celebrating backstage in traditional Puroresu fashion.

Super Fire Pro-Wrestling would mark the debut of Giant Baba in a Fire Pro game. A move that
got HUMAN Entertainment in trouble with Motoko Baba (Giant Baba's wife) who sent a cease
and desist to HUMAN for Baba's unofficial inclusion in a Fire Pro title.

Around the same time, All Japan Pro-Wrestling were trying to sell their own video games on
the Super Famicom.

Crusher Hatamoto (Shinya Hashimoto) and Hurricane Rikimaru (Riki Choshu)

Mitsuhide Hikawa (Mitsuharu Misawa) and Tommy Bomber (Jumbo Tsuruta)

Super Kaizer (Jushin Thunder Liger) and Phantom Guy (Pegasus Kid)

Jo Kajiwara (Yoshiaki Fujiwara) and Makoto Higaki (Masakatsu Funaki)

Mad Tiger (Tiger Jeet Singh) and Bloody Allen (Bad News Brown)

Blade Musha (Great Muta) and Astro Blaster (The Ultimate Warrior)

Akira Saeha (Akira Maeda) and Hitman Sabre (Big Van Vader)

Thunder Ryu (Genichiro Tenryu) and Ax Duggan (Hulk Hogan)

Iron Blaster (Animal) and Knight Blaster (Hawk)

B.G. Bull (Bruiser Brody) and Star Bison (Stan Hansen).

Bruiser Brody is a hidden boss character that can only be unlocked with a specific code. B.G. Bull and Star
Bison serve as the final opponents in World Championship mode's second playthrough under the tag team division.

Two more hidden characters: Ittetsu Wakamoto (Kotetsu Yamamoto) and Rikiouzan (Rikidozan).

Rikiouzan is the final boss of World Championship mode's singles division (second playthrough), while
Ittetsu is featured as a dojo instructor in Super Fire Pro-Wrestling Special's tutorial mode.

Both characters also require a code to unlock.

As for easter eggs:

By default, when completing the first playthrough of World Championship mode, the player(s) will be
greeted with an animation of Mad Tiger (Tiger Jeet Singh) who will enter the ring and scorch the player(s)
with a flame attack.

However, Tiger isn't the only heel that can be encountered.

Completing World Championship mode with Mad Tiger will present a special sequence where the player(s) are
ambushed by Blade Musha (Great Muta).

Winning the first playthrough of World Championship mode with both Mad Tiger and Blade Musha will
provide yet another ambushing sequence. This time the players will be attacked by Bloody Allen (Bad
News Brown).

Entering the Password CHACHA will unlock the hidden referee long time HUMAN Entertainment staff member Chachamaru.

Chacha even had his own video game series! Pictured above is Chachamaru Boukeni 3 Abys no Tou (literal translation
Chachamaru Adventure 3: Tower of the Abyss) which is known in Japan as 茶々丸冒険記3 アビスの塔

Entering the password WOMAN unlocks a female referee.

I always thought WOMAN was meant to represent FMW star Megumi Kudo.

To play as the hidden boss characters B.G. Bull (Bruiser Brody), Ittetsu Wakamoto (Kotetsu
Yamamoto), and Rikiouzan (Rikidozan), on the mode selection screen, set the cursor on any
mode except for PASSWORD or OPTION mode. While holding the L button, press A.

A screen prompt will then appear. Press Y to cancel.

If done correctly, the hidden boss characters will now be selectable in any mode except for
tutorial.

After receiving the Super Fire Pro-Wrestling guidebook by Keibunsha in the mail today, I discovered two new tricsk
that have never been talked about before outside of Japan:

Play as the same Wrestler:

While selecting the same Wrestler isn't a big deal these days in Wrestling games, back in 1991, players had to pull off a special
button combination in order to select duplicates.

In Exhibition match (second option) select SINGLE.

After player 1 has selected their Wrestler, player 2 must then hover their cursor over the empty space in the bottom right corner.
Player 2 must then HOLD L, X and A.

If done correctly, both player 1 and 2 will now be using the same character.

Strangely, trying this trick with Giant Baba will, by default, set player 2 as Antonio Inoki.

Watch Mode:

Super Fire Pro-Wrestling 2 was the first Fire Pro to allow players to sim matches with COM vs COM bouts, or was it?

Short answer: no.

Simply hold the X button at the mode selection screen and select Exhibition.

After both players have been selected, the COM will then take over for both players.

Start Hard Mode easily:

After completing the first run through of World Championship mode in either the singles or tag team divisions,
return to the main menu and select the PASSWORD option.

The password presented to the player(s) at the end of the first playthrough will already be inputted;
making it easier to start the second playthrough known as 'Hard Mode'.

The running technique:

As tough as the first Fire Pro games were, there is a simple running technique that can stump even the most difficult of CPU opponents.

1. Run towards the ropes.
2. Make sure the opponent is near the middle of the ring.
3. Once your character bounces off the ring ropes and begins running towards the opponent, hit the B button.
4. If done correctly, the COM will line up with your attack and take damage.

If you have a hard time getting the COM to stand in the middle of the ring, just keep running in different directions
to line the COM up. The COM will not attack while the player is running.

I usually prefer going for running attacks towards the top left or right of the screen - where there is less space for

opponents to dodge my running attacks.

For extra damage, raise the opponent to their feet and go for a second running attack!

Once you get the timing down, (and after the opponent has taken enough damage), you don't even need to bounce off the

ring ropes to land a running attack; making it possible to land up to three running attacks PLUS a submission hold or pin

attempt!

Furthermore, Wrestlers whose finishing moves happen to be running attacks include:

Star Bison (Stan Hansen) - Western Lariat
Ax Duggan (Hulk Hogan) - Axe Bomber
Knight Blaster (Hawk) - Flying Clothesline
Hitman Saber (Vader) - Body Check (while pressing Y)

Using the running technique, I was able to submit Hitman Saber (Big Van Vader), and the final boss Rikiouzan (Rikidozan) in the second playthrough
in just 30 seconds!

The running technique works for the following Fire Pro titles:

1. Combination Tag (PCE)
2. 2nd Bout (PCE)
3. Legend Bout (PCE)
4. Super Fire Pro-Wrestling (SFC)
5. Super Fire Pro-Wrestling 2 (SFC)

By Super Fire Pro-Wrestling III: Final Bout and Easy Type (1993), HUMAN had become aware of the running technique, and opted to make the COM
smarter.

Many staple Fire Pro themes were introduced in Super Fire Pro-Wrestling:

Chances are, if you have ever played Fire Pro Wrestling Returns, then you've certainly heard some of the stellar music
tracks found in-game.

But, did you know that many of the catchy tunes found in Returns were originally composed 14 years beforehand?

Standout tracks like:

BGM 0 - used as the character select theme in Fire Pro Returns

BGM 8 - Victory Musashi (Antonio Inoki) and Great Shiba (Giant Baba)'s theme - used throughout the Fire Pro series.

BGM 9 - Originally Ax Duggan (Hulk Hogan) and Thunder Ryu (Genichiro Tenryu)'s theme - given to Mr. K. (Koji Kitao) and Katsushi Okita (Atsushi Onita) in later games.

BGM 12 - Ittetsu Wakamoto (Kotetsu Yamamoto)'s training stage theme. Also featured in Fire Pro Returns.

BGM 14 - Star Bison (Stan Hansen) and B.G. Bull (Bruiser Brody)'s theme. Briefly resurrected in Fire Pro Soecial.

The Rikidozan Running Attack Glitch

Here's a glitch I discovered today! While playing as the hidden boss character Rikiozan (Rikidozan) perform Rikidozan's running

palm rush (B while running towards opponent) while outside the ring.

If successful, Rikidozan's running technique will push the opponent into the railing, collapse ...while the opponent will continue to take damage from

an invisible force! One that dishes out an additional fifteen strikes or so!

The reason this glitch exists is probably because Rikidozan only appears in one match at the end of World Championship mode. A match with

Lumberjack settings, meaning it's impossible to fight Rikidozan outside the ring.

The only Fire Pro title where Hulk Hogan appears as the final boss.

While Ax Duggan (Hulk Hogan) is a standard, playable character. The player can face Hogan as the final opponent

in World Championship mode with one simple trick.

Simply select one of the hidden bosses: Rikiozan (Rikidozan), B.G. Bull (Bruiser Brody), or Ittetsu Wakamoto (Kotetsu
Yamamoto), and complete the second playthrough of World Championship mode. Instead of facing Rikidozan as the
final boss, the game will be forced to resort to use the second strongest singles division character ...the Hulkster himself!

Face Rikidozan in the tag division league of World Championship mode.

Normally, Rikidozan is reserved as the final boss of the singles division of World Championship mode. Likewise,
Stan Hansen and Bruiser Brody serve as the final opponents of Championship's tag league. That is, unless the

player(s) utilizes a special tag team combination....

Defeating all opponents in the second playthrough of World Championship mode's tag division with final boss characters

Stan Hansen and Bruiser Brody will force the game to create a special tag team; replacing Stan Hansen with hidden
Wrestler Rikidozan.

Strangely, the game still keeps Bruiser Brody in for a clone match.

Super Fire Pro-Wrestling marked the first appearances of three legends:

Series staples Ittetsu Wakamoto (Kotetsu Yamamoto), Great Shiba (Giant Baba), and the recently-unmasked Mitsuhide Hikawa (Mitsuharu Misawa)
all made their original appearances in Super Fire Pro-Wrestling.

According to legend, Giant Baba's management caught wind of Baba's unlicensed appearance in SFPW, prompting Baba himself to kindly request being

removed from subsequent games.

Around the same time, Baba himself was being used to promote All Japan Pro-Wrestling's first video game on the same console.

Despite Baba's request, Great Shiba would continue to make secretive appearances in future Fire Pro titles. Starting with a cameo appearance in 1992's
Legend Bout on the PC Engine.

By completing the second playthrough of Legend Bout with certain Wrestlers, the player is treated to a portrait of Baba (with graphics lifted from Super
Fire Pro-Wrestling) in Kotetsu's training dojo.

Super Fire Pro-Wrestling X and X Premium utilize the same background graphics.

Four years after Super Fire Pro-Wrestling's release, Super Fire Pro-Wrestling X (and the updated X Premium released a year later) use the same

background graphics during both game's endings.

While X did manage to add a few graphical adjustments (such as the trophy, triple crown belts and different team tracksuit colours,
the ending is pretty much the same visually.

The first Fire Pro with Wrestler sound clips.

While voice clips of the referee have been present in Fire Pro games since the very beginning, it wasn't until Super Fire Pro-Wrestling

on the Super Famicom that we got to hear the Wrestlers themselves.

Some of the standout shouts found in SFPW are:

Victory Musashi - "Daaa" - a nod to Antonio Inoki's charismatic "1, 2, 3 ....DAAAAA!" taunt.

Star Bison - "Weeee" - a common misconception even among Japanese Wrestling fans is Stan Hansen's signature battlecry during matches.
In actuality, Hansen would shout "yoooooouth", as Hansen considered himself a young competitor, who was set

on dethroning Dory Funk Jr. and Terry Funk as Japan's top gaijin Wrestlers.

B.G. Bull - "O O O" - a reference to Bruiser Brody's primal "huss, huss, huss" taunt.

Rikiouzan - "Dosukoii" - before he was a Wrestling pioneer, Rikidozan was a noted Sumo Wrestler, who reached the rank of Sekiwake before
retiring in 1950. Dosukoii is a popular chant in Japan, often associated with Sumo Wrestlers - who would sing the

line as part of a song during pre-match entertainment. Other Wrestlers who have used this chant in video games

                                      include Ganryu from Tekken, as well as E. Honda from Street Fighter.

Ittetsu Wakamoto - "Dame na" - Kotetsu Yamamoto was known as NJPW's demon drill sergeant. A tough as nails dojo trainer, who was infamous
                                                    for his gruelling training regimens. The phrase "dame na" in Japanese translates to "I don't like it", inspiring
players to try again during SFPW's tutorial mode. In later instalments, Kotetsu would continue using "dame na"
as a playable character - most commonly after bodyslamming an opponent.

Tommy Bomber -"Oooo" - Jumbo Tsuruta's signature battlecry, just with a few more o's on the end.

Hitman Saber - "Saber" - Big Van Vader was one of the first Wrestlers who talked in the third person. "It's Vader Time", "the Vader Bomb", "Vader
                                        Hammers" and the "Vadersault" all come to mind. In the Fire Pro universe, Hitman Saber is Vader's unofficial Fire Pro
                                        counterpart, and as such, when landing a body splash, the Big Man shouts "Saber" instead.

Jo Kajiwara - "He he he" - Before Minoru Suzuki became known as the most dangerous man in Puroresu, competitors were afraid of the submission

                                          master Yoshiaki Fujiwara. Fujiwara was known to take pleasure in applying his painful holds against careless competitors,
                                          proving the power of Karl Gotch's catch training was very much alive and well.

Shinya Hatamoto - "Metsu" - Known in Japan as 'the King of Destruction', Shinya Hashimoto was once regarded as one of the toughest competitors
                                           in New Japan Pro-Wrestling. Metsu in Japanese means 'destruction'; a nod to Hashimoto's moniker.

The Misawa running elbow strike glitch:

Usually, when a player's running attack isn't lined up properly, both Wrestlers will collide and fall to the ground. However, playing as Mitsuhide
Hikawa (Mitsuharu Misawa) is a much different story.

Simply run towards the opponent and press Y to perform Misawa's running elbow strike.

What makes this technique special is that, even if Misawa's elbow doesn't line up, and both opponents end up colliding - the game will

still register the attack as a successful hit! Leaving Misawa to return to his feet much quicker than his opponent - allowing the master

of the Tiger Driver enough time to go for a submission, pin or ground technique!

To add insult to injury, Misawa's running elbow strike has a high percentage of making the opponent bleed on impact. For most Wrestlers,
donning a crimson mask reduces their defence during a match, allowing moves like submission holds to become far more damaging!

Not bad for Misawa's first Fire Pro outing!

Mitsuharu Misawa has one of the best combos in SFPW!

While Misawa may not have the strongest stats in-game, Misawa more than makes up for his lack of attack power
with a special 4 hit combo that's guaranteed to dish out a ton of damage when put into play.

1. Wear down your opponent until he's ready to take Misawa's Tiger Driver (Down + B while - front grapple).

2. After Misawa lands the Tiger Driver, immediately bring the opponent back to their feet (Y at the head of downed opponent)

3. Perform Misawa's running elbow strike (Y - while running).

4. Once the opponent is laying on the ground again, go for Misawa's elbow drop (A - at feet of downed opponent).

5. Finish with a chin lock (A - at head of downed opponent).

Misawa's Tiger Driver and running elbow strikes are really the stars of the show here. Both of which can stun

an opponent long enough to go for extra attacks. It's also great that Misawa returns to his feet instantaneously
after applying the Tiger Driver.

The Enzuigiri trick:

As the poster boy of the Fire Pro-Wrestling series, Victory Musashi (Antonio Inoki) is a longtime series favourite for many Wrestling fans.
For most entries, Inoki's in-game counterpart is a well-rounded fighter, who mixes traditional Pro-Wrestling prowess with proto-shoot style
tendencies. Simply put, the man was MMA before MMA was a thing.

Out of all of Inoki's most effective techniques, none are more damaging than Inoki's signature finishing maneuver: the Enzuigiri.

In Super Fire Pro-Wrestling, players can pull off Inoki's finishing move at the start of a match with two simple methods:

The first method involves running at the opponent with a shoulder block (Y while running). Once the attack connects, pick up the opponent and
go for Inoki's Enzuigiri (A button in close range). The slower the opponent, the higher the likelihood that the Enzuigiri will connect earlier in the
match.

After the opponent has taken enough damage, Inoki can perform two Enzuigiri's back to back with the above trick! By the time most opponents
have taken two of Inoki's finisher, the player should go for a pin.

The second technique is far more complicated. To pull off Inoki's finisher at the start of the match with second method, Irish Whip
the opponent. Wait for the opponent to bounce back from the ropes and run towards you before going for the Enzuigiri.

Timing is incredibly crucial, and each Wrestler has a different run speed. But, if done correctly, the player can not only land one Enzuigiri,
they can follow up with a second Enzuigiri immediately after!
