Geese's final pick: For my tenth pick of the draft, I turn the floor over to Sergeant Drake Yoshida of the UBL. [Drake:] "The Universal Battle League is excited to select Goose Egg 1: Amaresu. He was discovered by talent scouts that alerted one half of our Battalion Champions: JET Hamada. When the two were introduced, JET was immediately impressed by Ama's versatility and agility, in addition to his obvious pure wrestling talent. I got through my first initial draft list top 20 edits. I had their a scratch list of other edits I wanted to draft that I would widdle down as they got drafted. That had left me with like 14 edits left. So I may make it another 5 rounds out so depending on how lucky I am.

I got sidetracked from Fire Pro by a weird game, some people got a review for in their inboxes....lol but back to business. Ive been building edits for the winter-ish draft Geese discussed.
Point being, no need to snap up edits you dont want. Theres a far bigger draft on the horizon.

Yeah, it looks like there will be a huge draft later in the year 😄 If I run the next draft, it will start in late December. If someone else wants to run it, they can start it earlier. Either way, I think it makes sense to wait a few months before the next one starts. I want to give people time to work on the edits for this draft and also give more time to people making edits for the next one. While "appearance only" edits should still be accepted for the next draft, there will be a much bigger batch of "full edits" available. The more time we give edit makers time to work on the logic, the better the edits will be. That being said - I do totally agree that people can rest assured knowing a new draft is coming so you don't have to draft edits if you're not totally feeling them. We can always add the remaining edits from this draft to the next one too. There's really no reason not to, especially if we get new people drafting too. That's one reason I ducked out goosed out of the draft when I did. I knew that the 10 edits I already drafted would give me plenty of entertainment until (and probably beyond) the next draft when there would be even more available 😎 Oh also, knocked draft window will close at 8am today. After that, Johnny Jett window starts. I won't be around as much mid-week. I suggest that drafters just copy/paste my "Updated Draft Choice list" every time there is a new pick. Then I can update the first post when I have more time.

Please feel free and encouraged to continue drafting if you still want more of the edits! 😄 Glad to hear that you will make some edits for the next draft too. There is no pressure to do full edits with moves/logic, etc since "appearance only" will still be accepted. But if you want to make a few full edits, that will be great. I'll probably go with a "Geese template" of moves and logic: like my standardized moveset style and logic style ("King's Road' style with finishers and specials spread throughout the moveset, priorities where I tned to often place them, etc) with some individuality for the specific edits. Edit: I happened to post my template style in another thread and thought I'd include it in here too just for an idea of what I'll be doing with the draft edits I will make.

My formula isn't incredibly different for most edits. I tend to set edits up kinda in imitation of AKI games, I guess. Front finisher, back finisher, ground finisher, etc. But I'll also include priority pins that are dependent on when the move happens during the match and sometimes I'll try to set up sequences. All, of course, in imitation of far superior edit makers. I guess my big difference from all those guys I imitate (yourself included) is that I don't keep working and working to get things perfect. Unless something really egregious is wrong with the logic after a couple of sims, I do tend to call it good after the first or second try. I tend to just say "well, this is just how this edit wrestles" even if they don't necessarily fulfill my original vision to the T. I guess I make ballpark edits. Like, if they're in the right ballpark, they're close enough. And that's why I'll always humbly consider myself a lesser edit maker when I compare my work with contemporaries.

You aren't a lesser edit maker. If you are, I'm right along there with you 🤝 My view for the past few years has been that "perfect" isn't possible. I deal in "trends" which is similar to what you are talking about with "ballpark" edits. The only place we differ is that you are more willing to allow edits to essentially establish their own in ring personalities with your early drafts of them even if they do some things that are different than what you intended. I'll do that too sometimes unless I really don't like what they are doing 😄 But I think it's cool that you allow your edits that kind of leeway. I am a bit less generous with them but it doesn't make your approach lesser. Getting back to the whole "trends" thing, I wrote this "edit testing guide" years ago: ogubl.proboards.com/thread/681/best-testsSome of the "CPU engine" stuff is not applicable since FPW is slightly different than FPR in a few ways. However, my sections about testing - especially the input from other community members - is still valid. My overall point is that we can't micromanage CPU logic in Fire Pro and expect perfection. It's a system based on percentages that manifest like a roulette wheel operated by a drunk random number generator. Spending 6 hours stressed about whether your finisher is 6% or 7% is not a good way to spend time. The best thing to do is to try to give an initial best estimate and then sim a number of times to see how it works out. The truth is that sometimes both 6% and 7% won't be perfect so you have to make some trade-offs. You have to look at the broad trends as to what your edit does over time (and multiple sims) to get a sense if they are doing what you want. The difference between my good edits and my great edits in terms of my efforts making them are 1) me being luckier at some point with guessing %'s for my great edits and 2) me being patient in fixing minor issues that I see by waiting 10 sims rather than panicking and fixing them after 1 sim. (Sure, a major issue that is obvious can be fixed after 1 sim but those are akin to "typos" rather than figuring out the edit). It's good to give your edits some leeway and watch them work before overhauling them completely after they do a finisher early or not at all. There's so much complexity behind CPU logic and the Fire Pro engine and we'll never achieve perfection as a result. But if we really understand the direction our edits tend to go in, we can help gradually "course correct" their path when we see them going astray a little.
