At least in this game, I feel like there are more guys under the age of 25 than there were in the original XFL but I was a teenager then and didn't pay attention THAT closely to it. For a minute I forgot how long it had been since the original XFL had its day. I saw that post and went, "geez, what age is this guy?" Then I saw it was you and remembered we're about the same age. I need sleep. EDIT: Speaking of the new XFL, a friend of mine has started a satirical Twitter account for new XFL teams. @ RealXFLLogos My favorite so far is the Las Vegas Drop Bears.

I should root for the Guardians since they're my local team (and they did well Sunday vs. Tampa Bay), but I love the Run n' Shoot so much, I want to watch Houston Roughnecks games to learn from June Jones. Kevin Gilbride does also have roots in RnS, but his NFL experience has molded him to be more of a power run guy, using a TE as a Y-Flex or Y-Slot and Y-Off in shotgun formations, and even a two-back set, but retaining most of his RnS passing schemes. Also, Giants fans are very familiar with him.
Pepper Johnson has already been fired as defensive coordinator for the LA Wildcats after Week 1.

Pepper Johnson has already been fired as defensive coordinator for the LA Wildcats after Week 1. Shit. That has to be the quickest firing that I've seen of a coordinator, head coach, or manager in any sport 😂

This Houston Astros MLB scandal is a total shitshow. I'm expecting quite a few beanballs this season.

Yeah, it's pretty disgusting and shows a complete lack of scruples (and spine) from the commissioner's office.
Frankly, they should have been stripped of the World Series title. It shouldn't have gone to anybody else but it should be a vacated title.
Not giving the players (who orchestrated the cheating) any sort of penalty is rubbish but god forbid that MLB does something to rankle the MLBPA, who really should NOT (yet they would) support its members on "little" things like ORGANIZED CHEATING IN THE MLB PLAYOFFS.
The whole thing is crooked and really sours me on the league as a whole, worse since the Red Sox did something similar the following season, en route to another World Series.
There should be absolutely ZERO tolerance for cheating in professional sports. Doing so little in this particular case basically devalues the infraction, all but stating that they really don't give a damn about it so long as you don't get caught.
I guess it's really unsurprising given that this is the same league (under a different commissioner, however) that turned a blind eye to rampant and persistent steroid use by players for the better part of 20 years.

Caught the end of the Daytona 500 a bit ago. The excitement of that finish pales in comparison to the concern caused by horrific crash that Ryan Newman was in just seconds before the finish. I don't follow NASCAR as closely as I do other major sports but I've heard Newman's name for years and I really hope he'll be okay.

NASCAR mentioned he was in serious condition and that his injuries were not life-threatening.
Great news considering how bad of a hit that was.

MLB Commissioner Rob Manfred is the epitome of "open mouth, insert foot"

Yeah, that was an incredibly dumb, out of touch thing to say. Definitely not the kind of thing you'd have ever heard Bud Selig or Bart Giamatti say.

Did anybody watch the NBA All-Star Game this past Sunday?
I didn't initially (they've bored me for years) but the new 4th quarter rule made it a lot more exciting. Instead of whoever had the most points at the end of the game, they decided that once the 4th quarter began, they would play to a "target" score (in this case 157 points, I think determined by how much was scored through the first 3 quarters). This effectively turned the game from a showcase into something more competitive and the All-Stars were going HARD to get to that score. It wasn't ideal that the final point was scored on a free throw but altogether, that final period was the most exciting showing in NBA ASG in a good while. Funny how actual DEFENSE became a factor there.
It turned my opinion from "probably won't watch it next year" to "yeah, I might actually sit down and watch this one." They've played with the format a few times over the years to improve declining ratings and judging from other people's reactions as well as my own, I think they may have finally found a winner.

The target score was decided by adding 24 pts(for Kobe) to the score of the team in the lead after the first 3 quarters.

They've played with the format a few times over the years to improve declining ratings and judging from other people's reactions as well as my own, I think they may have finally found a winner. I watched it and loved the fourth quarter. But a lot of the first 3 quarters had much of the same "playground tomfoolery" as it usually has. I want them to find a way to make EVERY quarter competitive. The 4th quarter was the best quarter I've ever seen in an All Star game by a wide margin so that justified the entire format change. But I want more of this throughout the game. Maybe they can have each of the first 3 quarters end after like 6-9 minutes and then have the remainder of the quarter go without the clock. That's just kind of a guess. I don't know exactly how to tweak the formula so its best but anything that gives us more of the 4th quarter feel will make the entire game more worthwhile. I was okay with the free throw being the final point just because it felt dramatic. But some kind of rule saying the final play must be at least 2 points would be good. That way, you could still have a free throw finish it but it would come at the tail end of a two point play with a foul. I'd rather see someone win via free throw in a play where they scored some other way (like a dunk or a lay-up) then just going to the line to replace the shot they missed as a result of the foul. The rest of All-Star weekend was okay. I think the Rookie All Star game should have the same rule as the main All Star game with the 4th quarter. I turned it off after a few minutes cause it was just all alley oops and dunks with no defense. Skills contest was good and the 3 Point contest was GREAT cause it came down to the final shot! The Mountain Dew endorsement (specifically everyone saying Mountain Dew when the shot was attempted) was annoying but i like the variety it added to the contest. Most importantly, it acknowledged how the 3-Point game has gotten much longer over the past few years. It was just too bad that Curry didn't get to do it given his fame for hitting those long ones. I thought it was a really good idea to show the way the 3-point range has been extended. The dunk contest was pretty controversial this year 😮 They need to change the judging. It's ridiculous how they go into "All 10" mode once they hit a certain point then suddenly become sticklers at random times...like the very end. While I do feel like Aaron Gordon's dunks were a bit more impressive (especially the alley oop off the side of the glass, holy shit) ... I took more issue with the judging than who actually won. D-Wade seemed like he was partial to which wasn't great for the credibility of the judging. I also am just getting so tired of the "jump over tall guy" dunk. It's not unimpressive but its so repetitive. I really want to see more variety, even going into the absurd. While there were some innovative dunks this year, too many of them followed the same formula with just a few tweaks. It gets boring after a while and judges can barely give different scores if the dunks are essentially the same as each other. Someone needs to put some rubber hands on the backboard, and then play patty cake with them while dunking. Maybe someone can yell out a math equation while dunking. Break apart an oreo and dunk it into milk while dunking? Great product placement 😁 P.S. Kawhi Leonard no-selling the Gatorade endorsement in the press conference was hilarious. Dude is like the most low key FUN GUY the NBA has ever had.

The one thing I saw that I liked was not giving free throws on a no shooting foul which I agree with. I loved that Harden was getting called for charges in the 4th quarter.
As for the dunk contest, it has done nothing for me for a long time. Everything feels iterative and not that much. And yes after the first time a guy jumped over big guy that was kinda the only time it was impressive. Also Gordan didn't even make all the over Fall so yeah.
3 point contests are most exciting when it is as competitive as it was this year but still one of my favorites of the competitions. The skills competition is fun but I always miss it. Having bigger guys being there at the end is fun seems unexpected to me.

The one I saw that I liked was not giving free throws on a no shooting foul which I agree with. I loved that Harden was getting called for charges in the 4th quarter. LOL probably a first for him. Dude basically does the Cena jumping shoulder block to most guys all season! The NBA really needs a rule update with charges and fouls. Harden is brilliant for playing within the existing rules and being so successful but those rules are exposed as pretty awful when stretched the way he does. As for the dunk contest, it has done nothing for me for a long time. Everything feels iterative and not that much. And yes after the first time a guy jumped over big guy that was kinda the only time it was impressive. Also Gordan didn't even make all the over Fall so yeah. Yeah, that's another thing. That whole "jump over the big guy to dunk" is not only repetitive but half the time they don't even fully execute it. Most of the time the bigger guy instinctively (if not also intentionally) ducks a little and it's not a clear hurdle jump effect. So it's usually underwhelming and repetitive. There were some excellent dunks this year but the contest overall felt bloated and the judging illegitimate. 3 point contests are most exciting when it is as competitive as it was this year but still one of my favorites of the competitions. The skills competition is fun but I always miss it. Having bigger guys being there at the end is fun seems unexpected to me. I always enjoy the skills competition as an appetizer for the entire weekend 😁 But I kind of wish they changed it up so the semi-finals and finals had different aspects to it. Watching the same exact "obstacle course" for every round gets super repetitive.

Even if you want to say that Gordon only cleared 7'0" of Tacko Fall, that was still pretty ridiculous and just won't (can't, really) get bigger than that i terms of jumping over indivduals. I thought that overall, Gordon had the more unique dunks (for the night) while Jones just did a bunch of variations of the between the legs dunk (which is still impressive but when you see a guy do it 3-4 times......). The judging in the "dunk off" was bogus as hell and yeah, Dwyane Wade (WHY IS HIS NAME SPELLED LIKE THAT? AAAARRRRRRGGGH) was the goat behind it, rigging it for his "Miami dude."
But yeah, skills and 3pt was legit. I was pulling for Baby Sabonis but Adebayo did the damn thing and that h2h between the two largest guys in it this year was pretty fun. I'll be interested to see Trae Young in future 3pt contests (especially if Booker and Hield are still doing them). Trae is a pretty good shooter but you could tell that he was super nervous out their doing it for the first time. I really think he'll win one of those one day.
