The fence look isn’t that modern, it’s been the default look for cage matches for decades in many territories and countries. It’s just that the WWF wanted a cage that let them film easier through with their cameras and supposedly something long lasting. The big blue cage was awesome though as I totally agree it had some real weight to it :) Very interesting about the filming aspect. I hadn't realized that 💡 I'm surprised that WWE hasn't found a way around the filming difficulty. Putting aside Kevin Dunn's dizzy, cut-away, "anything can happen because we're literally switching to any shot possible except the in ring action" producing and Vince's terrible guidance as to what should be focused on in matches, WWE is generally excellent with audiovisual creativity and problem solving. I'm surprised they can't find a way to make the big blue cage work and ride some 80's nostalgia at the same time. It can't all be Attitude era, Vince. But I'm sure that Attitude era mindset is seeping into his brain again as he readies for Monday Night Wars part deux, LOL. I figured that the "fence" cage is less expensive and maybe easier to set up. But given that steel cage matches should be rare, it's worth the cost to make it feel more special. I just hate that damn fence. It looks like the city condemned the ring or there should be a "Car towed? Pay here!" sign on it 😁

They look like you're about to get attacked by rabid dogs then mugged by someone huffing a bag of body odor. This is actually why fence cages are cool.

Yes, it's wrestling, but they're humans with livelihoods and wrestlers cannot afford to get hurt.
